This has been the most helpful video i have watched! I just started making bath bombs and purchased the ornament molds, every single one of them cracked down the middle. I am looking into metal ones now. I also found that i was making my mix too wet and the bath bombs seemed to expand while they were drying. Thank you so much for the awesome video!

Just made these! I'm excited to see how they turn out. I did use essential oils instead of the fragrance oil, but I am looking into getting some fragrance oil ( I also used avocado oil instead of olive oil, because that's what I had on hand). The instructions were great, and I can't wait till I finish drying so I can give them as gifts! Edit: going ahead, I will not be doubling this recipe. I just don't have enough molds, and I'm hoping that sealing it in some Tupperware will keep it long enough for the first batch to dry.

@amydavis3078

Hi there! First off, thanks so much for this! I'm determined to learn how! Question: I followed your recipe but since I wasn't using fragrance, I replaced that TBS with extra water, since I assumed it'd need the same moisture level. I added simply a few drop of EO instead. I molded them and wrapped with bands for one hour, but all of them immediately opened in two halves. Like a thick clay. Did I add to much moisture? So if I don't add fragrance, should i not replace that with the same volume? Looking forward to the help! Thanks big!
@DesertCloudSoapworks
@DesertCloudSoapworks 6 жыл бұрын
Cut back on the fluids. Subbing a bit more water if your not using any fragrance, which includes FO and EO is okay. Your climate might be a factor too if you live in a humid area.

What is your opinion about using a silicone mold, like maybe a candy mold and pressing the mixture into those?

Some people use those, but it can be tricky to get a firm pack on the mixture because the mold flexes.

Thank-you for your video! I have tried several recipes where I've added the liquid at a what I thought was slow pace. Every time I try to make bath bombs they expand out of the mold. But I also live in a dry climate. Aside from mixing vigorously, do you have any recommendations to help keep the fizzing at bay so it will dry all nice and molded?
@DesertCloudSoapworks
@DesertCloudSoapworks 7 жыл бұрын
Fizzing will happen when you put the fluid in no matter what. Just do a very little at a time and mix quickly until it is all mixed in. The bombs will be moist when you mold them. Keep them molded in a dry area. I recommend keeping one half off the mold for an hour, and then flipping it over for the other side to be exposed and dry for another hour. I will be making a new video about the bath bombs that show a different simple method and drying techniques.
@sherrigibson118
@sherrigibson118 6 жыл бұрын
You can also put one drop on at a time then immediately squish the fizzing drop of moisture to stop the reaction, then mix that moist drop of partially reacted powder to the rest. It is how I saw a scientist do it. With 15 ml of water going into a batch and every drop 1 ml.. that is a bit slower but might help with your dilemma

Wow! I was up last night very late watching and liking your videos! You are amazing! You are a great teacher! I have a question, I'm sorry if you've already been asked this, I didn't see it on here so my question is - How long do I HAVE to wait before I can shrink wrap the bath bombs? I've seen some people say 1 day to 2 days, and in another one of your videos you were describing a different type of bomb - I think it was the shower steamer video?? But I believe you said to get them wrapped asap and that they would continue to dry in the shrink wrap. I've been making bath bombs to send to family and friends in other states and I want to be sure that it's ok to wrap them quickly and send them off. One consideration is that I use essential oils in my bath bombs so with that being said, how long until I can shrink wrap?
@DesertCloudSoapworks
@DesertCloudSoapworks 6 жыл бұрын
As long as the surface is hard and dry, you should be able to shrink wrap them. They still dry when wrapped because some air still gets in to them. Just keep them in a cool, dry place until you re ready to sell or ship.

It will also depend on humidity. I usually have to leave mine to dry for 48hrs but I live in a humid place. Look up weather apps for humidity. I try to wait for days that are under 60 % humidity. Its supposed to be 40% but that hardly ever happens here lol. The fridge helps them dry out faster too. Hope this helps!

TYFS, I am newly searching to learn how to make bath bombs. Two questions, how long do they need to set to dry before putting in a package and second question how long can you store them ?
@DesertCloudSoapworks
@DesertCloudSoapworks 7 жыл бұрын
They can be stored for years if kept in a cool, dry place. Packaging should happen within a few hours after they are dry on the outside regardless how you package them. Even shrink wrap will still continue to let air in so they dry completely when wrapped. This also prevents the bombs from cracking if they dry too quickly in open air.

it will still fizz for while if you take it out, but it will dry and could be used again. However the second time it might fall apart or not fizz at all. Bath bombs are generally a one time use item.

Take a look at my more recent video. It's an easier recipe. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6GnZH1njJeHoLc Getting bath bombs to work is tricky and a lot of it has to do with your location. Dry/humid/rainy? High or low elevation?

Desert Cloud Soapworks I live in Texas I just used 1/3 of cornstarch and everything else. And they turned out hard!!!

It could have been too much cornstarch soaking up the humidity in the air. Glad you got them to stay hard. :)

I read that it should be two parts Baking Soda to one part citric acid in order for it to work. Do you live in california or a coastal part of the country? that can make it do that.

Nice video, I have a question don’t you need polysorbate 80, so water and oil combine?
@DesertCloudSoapworks

No, you don't need that.

I tríed once With corn starch and got powdery, what is exactly the purpose of corn starch? What about using kaolin clay? you are very good, I like your explanation of troubleshooting.

Kaolin clay works too. The corn starch is more like a binder.

What is the difference between fragrance oil and essential oils???
@sjs9354
@sjs9354 5 жыл бұрын
Traci Adi Fragrance Oil is diluted and way cheaper. The fragrance doesnt last long and it takes way more to get a scent. Some projects would be watered down by the extra fragrance. Fragrance oil is measured by teaspoons and tablespoons. Essential oil is extremely concentrated. They are beneficial for health reasons. I get mine at Edens Garden and Plant Therapy. Essential oils can be diffused or added to projects such as this one to help with colds and flue, and so forth. Very long story. Essential oils are measured by “drops.” Do not rub highly concentrated essential oils on the skin.

Can you please explain how you removed them from the molds? I have the metal molds and it did not show you taking the out. I am havkng the qorse trouble getting them to come out of the molds.. Ty

If you can't get them out of metal molds even with a slight tap on the mold, then your mixture is probably too wet.

I just made these the other day and I let them sit for 24 hrs and it sunk to the bottom of the tub and only lasted about 20 sec.....I also made the foaming bath bombs as well and when I put it in water they barely were foaming and it was just sitting on the water.....I also tried one of each when I fist made them(I let them sit for about an hour) and they did great but only lasted for about 1 minute (I used a 2.75in metal mold) any tips would be greatly appreciated!

You might be packing your molds either too loose or too tightly. Let them dry at least 24 hours and perhaps increase your citric acid.

I'm using different shaped molds and having issues with the bath bombs coming out of the mold intact. It seems like some of it sticks inside the mold and I also end up with cracks. I live in Las Vegas so pretty dry climate. Do you have any suggestions?

Mixture might be too wet. Look up my bath bomb troubleshooting video. That might help you out.
