I’ve been employing the OODA loop in my life for years. Very effective

This really works over time, you are constantly evaluating, making changes and seeing how well the corrections worked. It's basically a closed loop system

When I learned to ride a motorcycle (20+ years ago) the instructor used SIPDE (phonetically - SIP-D). It was the tool they said would "one day save your life". Clearly it has stayed with me. S. ee I.dentify P.redict D.ecide E.xecute Whichever set of acronyms you use...apply it as a discipline (and I like to think an art form) that a man can hone over a lifetime to make good decisions.

I still remember, "Slow, Look, Lean, Roll". As I come through corners, I still repeat it nearly 20 years later.

Thanks. As always, practical advice for men. I am grateful for a father who has taught me many of these lessons (maybe not quite as eloquently) but watching this only makes it easier to share some of these lessons with my sons. Always improving.

Very informative . Thank you for what you do brother . I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now , and ever since , you have given me many different perspectives on life and self. I’m a strong believer in following a structured set of principles . You’ve showed and inspired me to become better in doing that. Once again, thank you.

Interesting how this links to business strategy. Observe is the equivalent to an external analysis. Orient is the equivalent to checking internal capabilities. Decide is the equivalent to finding the strategic links and then of course you act which is implementation in business. Powerful shit.

This was one of the better videos that I've seen in a little bit, Mostly because things at home have been a little bit crazy and my wife has been looking more for me to make more decisions and I've heard of that on a lip when I was in the army but completely forgot about it in the last 10 years or so, It's something that I need to get back to using.

It would have helped those who are novices, like me, to tell us what OODA means. I had to look it up. It's: Observe--Orient--Decide--Act. Observe: Objectively consider all information possible with logical reasoning, not emotional feelings. Become a Spock. Rely on logic, not emotions. What are the long-term rewards or consequences of your decisions? I'll sleep on it, and decide tomorrow. What if your decision didn't result in what you expected or desired? "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."-- Nikola Tesla. Also attributed to Thomas Edison Beware of those who insist on telling you what you need to do. These are the, "I know all about that" crowd, and the coffee-shop experts. But they actually know little or nothing.

Great message! Very similar to the Lean concept of “Plan, Do, Check, Adjust”. I agree that getting stuck in the front end is an area of struggle for many, including myself. I generally prefer to be iterative and agile, but I sometimes slip into a “Perfectionism Funk” that keeps me from taking prompt action. Other times, I’m wondering how deep the river is after I’ve already jumped off the bridge. It all makes me think that perfectionism is probably just fear in disguise. Thanks, Ryan!

So if a desision you have to make has a very high desired roi but the risk is also extreamly high and can cause exuberant amount of damage. What would you say?
