How do you avoid cupping when you use the torch? I literally just torched a one and it cupped beyond words
@ChrisPowellFSD3 жыл бұрын
The cupping is probably happening because the torched side now has a lower moisture content than the other side. Your wood may be too wet to begin with. One option would be to torch the back side. That should help even things out. I try not to go too heavy when torching.

Hi Chris, Love the video...... I'm colorblind and went into Lowes and they cant mix Crimson, so called Sherwin Williams and they have 2 Crimson numbers. Love the Look, what is the number you used to mix? Thanx Gary

There’s a few numbers listed on the can. 101-3, 109-3, 217-1y6. Hope those help.

I have found the color, wondering your stain goes on smooth and thick like a paint consistency , not watery and runny like mine. I done get good coverage on 1 coat likes your, any advice
@johnklein45585 жыл бұрын
Gary Serfass make sure you’re sanding to 220 grit so the stain absorbs into the wood. Also make sure you are using clear pine and I’d get it from a lumber yard not a “Big Box “ store.
@ChrisPowellFSD5 жыл бұрын
Make sure it’s mixed properly. It could have a bunch of the pigment settled on the bottom. I use the premium pine from the big box stores. It’s great stuff. I don’t notice a big difference between sanding and not sanding as far as the stain absorption goes.

I love your videos, just received my Shapeoko xxl. Do you have issues with the flags warping before or after carving? Thanks
@ChrisPowellFSD5 жыл бұрын
Some have a slight curve before. I don’t notice it gets any worse by carving. I usually try to cut about 30 boards and stack them on top of one another. I let them sit for a day like that before carving.

Great work brother, one day I’ll be able to afford a CNC machine

Hey Chris. Nice job. I've learned a lot about CNC'ing from you. Thanks for being a great teacher. One question. What brand of epoxy do you use? I know there are many different brands. Are there different classifications as well? Types to avoid, types that work better for woodworking applications? Trying to expand my knowledge of epoxy as well.

I mostly use Glaze Coat because I can get it at Lowe’s. Some people say it’s junk, but I’ve had good results with it. I have even done a couple tables and a charcuterie board with it. Nothing too thick though. Just make sure you follow the instructions to the T.

Man I really like the idea of the epoxy colored lines!! Great job all around. How did you do it prior to the CBC machine?
@ChrisPowellFSD4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Either a dremel or chisel. I haven’t done any complex logos though. Just stars.

How do you download the flags
@ChrisPowellFSD5 жыл бұрын
I make them with free images from Google images. Check out some of my other videos and they will teach you how.

Love the video man. I wish I had a CNC machine. All my designs on flags are done with a dremel and router and it’s a pain in the butt. Got a question for you. What epoxy do you usually use?
@ChrisPowellFSD5 жыл бұрын
Famowood. It works well and I can get it locally at the big box stores.

Darryl MarcAurele it’s a Shapeoko XXL. I ordered mine online through Matterhackers, but you can also order one direct.

@@ChrisPowellFSD I’ve been looking into one since I ran across your videos. I was surprised they weren’t a lot more expensive. Better hope Milwaukee never gets involved. They’ll be a bazillion dollars.

@@CrowCreekOutdoors yea there’s a lot of different options from hobby to professional machines. They start in the hundreds and go to the tens of thousands.

@@ChrisPowellFSD I saw that. It would be a hobby for me. From what I’ve gathered so far, the Shapeoko seems like the way for me to go.

@@CrowCreekOutdoors I’m pretty happy with mine. It’s done well for me and paid for itself many times over making flags and signs.
