You sound like a kid in a candy store when you speak in this video! It's easy to get a sense of how important a good set up is to you, your work and end product (as it should be to us all). Looking forward to seeing it come together in the videos.

Allan, Thanks for your help and ideas. I have long wanted a better rail system, but didn't know how to go about it. I didn't even know a better system was available. I thought I was going to have to purchase a new saw. After watching your video, I now know how to go about it. Thanks I can hardly wait until I get to start putting it all together. KZbinrs, You will not find anyone who is more willing to help you design and install this system. I had ordered some parts wrong, and he called to get me straightened out, and saved me some money too. You da man!!!! Thanks Allan

Thanks Chris. The table saw and bandsaw upgrades are really important changes that will make my shop life much better and more efficient. Get ready for a wave of videos. I have a backlog that is unbelievable. I am also starting a video index by topic and keyword.

You are right. The new fence did not make the blade any less scary. That is a machine that DEMANDS respect. And I am happy to give it :)

Thanks Marcel. I use the metric system all the time in my videos and find it great to work in. The US will always (well in my lifetime) operate in a dual system so am always having to jump between the two. My company VerySuperCool Tools VSCTools(dot) has an adjustable throat t-square that fits 4 standard sizes of metric tubing. Many import saws here are being sold even in the US with metric steel for fence guide rails. Many people are fabricating their own guide rails (metric) for our fence.

Absolutely. You can't believe the number of people who have upgraded their saws with a guide rail setup you build yourself and a VerySuperCool Tools t-square with aluminum extrusion. Most saws are more than adequate, it is the poor fences that makes life tough for the woodworker. The actual fabrication videos are going to be up in the next few days. Let me know how I can help. Check out VerySuperCool Tools for lots more info. Thanks for writing. Allan

Wow! I c under the back of your hitachi band saw you have a planer...once upon a time I had the hitachi 12"planer, 6" jointer combination machine and loved it. I'm setting up my personal shop again after many years of working in a cabinet shop and was interested in the project you said you did for your guitar building friend....I have the same exact old unisaw that I need to build up; fence, extensions, router extension, portable base....exactly like you did, I haven't got a chance to sit and watch your other videos but love your ideas on using the supercool fence on several machines....I'll have to try and find your video on rebuilding the unisaw....thank you for your videos. I just wish there were more quality, informative videos like yours on KZbin. It's projects like this that keep my brain young...

There is generally nothing wrong with most saws that a tune up and a good fence won't cure. A good fence system makes all the difference. We have shipped many of these VerySuperCool Tools t-squares for aluminum extrusions to Canada.

This is awesome. The fence on my saw is terrible and I have been trying to figure out what I can do to make it better. I have some ideas but your fence just flipped a switch for me. I haven't decided exactly how far too go. My fence is lightweight aluminum so it's not substantial, there isn't enough of a contact surface between the slider in the front and the rail so it can rock some, it's plastic sliding on aluminum so there's some friction and wear and the lock-down mechanism is not great and can actually shift the fence when you lock it in place. I bought some UHMW PE to put on both sides of the fence for less sliding friction for wood against it and I have some 5mil UHMW tape arriving today to reduce friction on both the sliding rail surface and underneath the fence. I just may go all out and build your system though it's really well designed and executed. Bravo 👏👏👍👍

You've got great videos, love your work. I notice you have MFT style outfeed tables for your table saw, do they get used much or is it that you only use them once in a great while but they are very handy at those times.

I know this is a pretty old video series but, can you make these rails out of aluminum instead of steel or would aluminum be too soft?
@AskWoodMan
@AskWoodMan 4 жыл бұрын
I would not. Too soft and prone to damage on the edge of the saw. And unless it has been anodized aluminum is sticky and grabby. I also needs to be nearly twice the dimension to have the same strength as steel. I also don't like tapping into aluminum and then using a steel bolt.
@Thurge
@Thurge 4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that might be the case. I haven't worked with aluminum that much but since you can cut it with a wood saw I felt that might be a potential issue.

Great video! I have been wanting to extend my cutting width to 50+ inchs and never knew how. Is the square tubing just generic 11g that I can get from a supplier and use it to what ever length I want? Along with the angle iron? I can attach the angle and tubing I want and then just the the fence and t-square from VSCT and drop in??
@AskWoodMan

Yes just standard steel. Just inspect for pieces for straightness and squareness. Only rarely is it off.

Louis Ferney We have shipped many times to the UK. We can also give you a UK contact for the aluminum extrusions so you don't have to pay shipping across the pond. We will still provide the UHMW t-glide for the extrusion with each t-square fence regardless of where you get your extrusion. Our Standard fence will fit 75x50mm tubing and other sizes between 50-80mm tubing can use our Adjustable. Write me at askwoodman@gmail.com if you want a shipping quote or other info. Allan

Hey Allan, I found your KZbin site today and I love the concept. However, I went to your website and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what I need to purchase. It was so complex that I just gave up. I have a Rigid contractor's saw with a BM fence and I would like to add your fence but couldn't figure out what was what. A sawstop? Choose my extrusion? T-Nuts and bolts? Option 1, 2, or 3? Maybe I'm just not advanced enough? -jb
@AskWoodMan
@AskWoodMan 9 жыл бұрын
If you have a Biesemeyer guide rail with 3x2 tubing the Standard is the choice. If you have your own extrusion you may use it, but we have beautiful machined extrusions in two sizes. You would use a 42". T-nuts are for adding accessories. Write me at askwoodman@gmail.com and we can arrange to have a chat if you like.

somewhere I missed the angle iron size at the rear, please give me the dimension..
@AskWoodMan
@AskWoodMan 10 жыл бұрын
You can use a 3x3 or 3x2 x 1/4" for the back rail. While this has nothing to do with the function of the t-square, you do need the 3" vertical dimension to give you bolt connection access for the extension table frame. I generally tell people to just use 3x3 since they are already buying that size for the front rail. Always cheaper to by full length pieces of steel. Much cheaper.

Hey Allan. I love your series, and i want to buy a fence from you. But i makes it extremely hard to find the stuff I need, when you use enherently American expressions like "11 gauge steel". Non of us non-english Europeans can look up "11 gauge" in a dictionary. Same thing with all steel grades like O2, A1 etc. So if you could tell a little bit about what we should tell out steel supplier to get us, in common words, that would be great :).
