How to make Big Crackle Textures with Sodium Silicate on SLAB Clay (No Wheel required!)

this video shows how I make big, beautiful crackles in slab clay with a throwing technique.
What you'll need:
-Thick slab of clay in one colour
-Clay slip or underglaze in a contrasting colour.
-Sodium Silicate
-Two clean brushes (more if you want to do various underglaze colours)
-Heatgun, blow torch or hairdryer (I use a hairdryer in this video)
-Board or surface you can comfortably throw onto.

Hi! Thank you for sharing this was so useful. I have made a bowl from a slip with sodium silicate and now i wonder if i should clean it off the bottom like i would with glaze? Like should i avoid sodium silicate on my kiln shelves?:)

Sodium silicate,,,,water glass I use it on concrete for a densifier an water proofer.... I do a lot of moulds atm ,,an I spray concrete with a sugar an water mix Wait til the next day,,,gently hose it off An expose all the fancy stones,, The effect you have on the clay looks great to... Good on ya mate

Yes that's correct. It dries out the surface and then the clay needs to be stretched
