Some "small" things that could improve Bitwig massively, imo. Nothing big, that changes Bitwig into something else. Just the small things. Let me know in the comments.

I sent a feature request a long time ago now to Bitwig for an improved sampler with recording ability and/or a looper device something like Ableton has, or something like Audio Damage's ENSO which is just an incredible plugin and one of my favourites for making soundscapes. To have something like that which works inside the Grid would be absolutely huge! I'd really love them to focus on these things - recording, sampling, looping, granular improvements in the Sampler (or a full on granular synth/device), including maybe a device a bit like Monkey Audio Rewind, but also useable in the Grid. Great video as usual, awesome suggestions!

Bitwig is a relatively young DAW that is progressing the fastest in the direction we like. My wishes are all yours, especially to add useful things when we edit the piano roll because it can be really tiring. My additional list: 1. Offline processing, 2. Multiple sidechain inputs, 3. MIDI preview for active instruments not some irritating sound, 4. Clip versions, 5. Append/Merge MIDI clips, 6. Mixer snapshots for different variations and tests, 7. Metering devices, 8. Better editor for drums programming and drawing.

I'll add: Resizable mixer faders Individually resizable tracks ( this drives me made when you have a large arrangement ) Select all following key command Ripple editing in the arrange window Slicing in the sampler Groove quantize, editor and DNA groove import ( this is an absolute must for dance music production as far as I'm concerned ) Better swing ( it's utterly dreadful ) Modulator presets And that's just off the top of my head. I'll probably add more as I think of them Apart from that Bitwig is a damn fine DAW :)

Also regarding The Grid: I’d really like to see more keyboard-centric navigation controls to enable faster building of patches. Yes, I can use the “s” key to snap to the module search bar, but once I find the module I need I have to reach back for the mouse and grab and place it…would be much easier if I could use arrow keys, tab, shift, ctrl, etc. Focusing on these kinds of economy-of-motion features really would make using The Grid feel like playing a kind of super-instrument, which imo would be much more engaging.

As a logic user since the emagic days I just recently paid attention to bitwig and I’m quite impressed. I still prefer logic for mixing purposes but for Sounddesign and sketching out ideas bitwig is just so much fun. The only feature I can’t live without is midi capture. It seems so minor but once you are used to it it’s a complete game changer. My workaround is running logic simultaneously and pass the MIDI through via blue cat audios connector but I really hope they implement it pretty soon. Edit: And adding the possibility to use 3rd party plugins in the grid would be just insane!

Bitwig needs to improve on more bread and butter features like the lines on the arrangement view. Better beginner education, I like Ableton's making music site. Bitwig is mostly dominated by advanced edm and idm. We need more song writing videos, like recording vocals and other genres. I also wish they made more videos on performing on stage with Bitwig and utilizing it with a surface pro. Because Bitwig is literally an instrument. Something to get a total beginner started and where to go from there, etc. I wish they added a tap tempo, it's hidden, which I don't understand. And instead of cap lock for key board, it should be something you can click, or hit cap lock. Automation needs a little more improvement. Touch control needs an update. That's about it for me. ❤

One of the main things I've wanted in the sampler was the option to have timestretch within the sampler itself, rather than having to relay on granular synthesis. Similar to how Simpler in ableton or the Sampler has in Studio One. I would have a party if they gave us that simple option :)

This. Also I miss transient slicing like in Logics Quick Sampler or Simpler. It allows you to automatically slice a sample you drop in on the transients it detects, maps them to MIDI notes and offers a sensitivity slider to customize. This was essential to my workflow and I miss it so, so much. There are also no real VST alternatives for this or at least none that work as good as the two I mentioned (VICE comes to mind but I don't like its workflow and UI).

My feature wishlist is 1) Be able to save pre-wired groups of modules in the grid as 'prefabs' that I can drag into the grid from the Browser. 2) A note length dropdown (like the ones in Note FX devices) next to the Tempo that lets me set the tempo to compound meter or give any of those note lengths the beat per the tempo number

I really would like something like a snapshot manager by macro knob, as you said, or a fixed selector that could involve a kind of slewing or morphing between presets. It could also be great to have this implemented inside the grid for specific modules (for instance the Stoermelder plugins in VCV rack allow this for anything).

if anyone could make thoughtful suggestions for Bitwig, it'd be someone like you that knows it about as well as the devs themselves. Saving modulator presets, groups of modulators, etc would be🔥Right now we can add modulators to a Chain device and save that, so the capability is already there in that respect. Though you do still need to assign them. I just tested it, however, and you can add, say, a Polysynth to the Chain and then map modulators all over it, and save that, and then you can recall the Chain preset with a Polysynth with any of your usual modulators in place and ready to go.

But to work in this DAW seriously, I want to see: 1) Grid behind the clips in the arranger! 2) Midi comping! 3) Piano roll improvements (like in FL, not Ableton) 4) ARA2 for Melodyne integration (like in Studio One) 5) Video track 6) Groove Pools / swing presets

Presets as modulators is an interesting idea, but that would require a new modulation mode. Currently modulations are additive, but that wouldn’t work for your suggestion since it would fall apart when modifying a parameter value manually. The new modulation kind would need to change the parameter value itself gradually to some specified target value. There are a lot of questions around this: Would regular additive modulations be applied on top of this? What if the loaded preset contains modulators? What if the existing preset contains modulators, would the application of the new preset modulation disable these modulations to make the new preset be applied correctly? How to represent these new kind of modulations in the UI, is the current blue ring usable for that? Where can the target value be set, and how to represent this in the inspector? What should happen if multiple such target-value modulations are applied to the same parameter? Should automation be applicable to the target values of this new modulation? Imho the idea is interesting, but it does not fit well with the current concepts. Maybe it would be much simpler conceptionally to have an easier way of using the instrument layer, e.g. a single-click feature to wrap the existing instrument in a layer, load the preset’s new instrument as second layer, add a modulator to morph between the two, and maybe a simpler or even automatic way to pull up modulators from the two different presets and duplicate the existing modulation targets to the other instrument similar to the drum machine‘s „Copy Value to All Layers“ function.

Mike/JetJaguar and I have been discussing the modulator presets idea - a really important feature IMO, I almost never want the default state and very regularly would re-use the same or similar settings but have to dial them in EVERY time. I like your idea of loading a preset as a state /set of destinations and amounts in the modulator, fantastic concept but surely quite simple to execute? Some other great ideas in the video too! For sample creation I'd love a bit more freedom on the render settings - currently if I have a bunch of different length MIDI or audio items in the arranger and want to render them all at the same time I can't. So I use the old trick we've been using for years where I bounce what I want one by one then have the Bounce folder open in Finder/Explorer. It would only take something like Reaper's ability to bounce arranger "items" no matter what their length - perhaps with a setting to also capture any audio tail after the item because of fx. Currently I export a set of stems and have to edit them to correct length after, well currently I use another DAW for this functionality, which is fine but it'd be nice to stick in Bitwig for this where I'm often doing a lot of sound design for sample packs.

Yah nice, it's coming together. Definitely agree with all of it. Unifying recording functionality into the sampler(s) would be awesome. It would also be great to have a way to provide a custom combiner that lets you define how things combine with what is already there with the incoming recording signal. The interval display on the piano roll would be very helpful as well. Could have magnetic regions too like snaps on sketchup. The preset modulator is something I requested from Bitwig a year or two ago, and at the time they said they would put it on the list, so if more people are interested we might get there. Totally agree about ignoring the FX stuff. All cool stuff anyway man. Nice video.

Agreed, Bitwig is awesome but there is always room for improvements :). I'm still in mourning because of the browser, but we have to accept and end when it's here I suppose. I agree with you list, but I would also love if they focused a little bit on the arranger. There's a lot in terms of UI improvements and little features known from other DAWs that they could implement. And proper Scenes in the clip launcher! Basically I would like a behavior like in Ableton. A proper drum editor would be nice as well 😊 Loop slicing in the sampler (not to multi sample but in place) ...

completely agree with arrangement UI. Also need more shortcuts! For example, the management of width and height for individual tracks isn’t as great as some other DAWs. Very limited. Also, in large projects, it can be difficult to get around. A zoom tool like logic would be awesome… Or, even better, a search function for tracks.

For the random modulator part, I would love a single modulator/grid module that applies a random value to each of the modulated parameters. That would open endless possibilities combined with your "apply modulation" idea. Like you could make cpu friendly synth generators, compared to the current method which consists of having a grid instance containing a ton of "dice" modules connected to "modulator out" modules for each modulated parameter.

Haha, classic Polarity, starting with features within the Grid :D I like the idea with showing intervals in the piano roll! Could be part of a piano-roll upgrade which adresses all of its weak points :) Also really nice the idea of feeding the Sampler on the fly! Sampler improvements for timestretch, slicing, and live-playback-capabilities for liveperformance would be awesome. (recording&immediately playing slices via midi is much too fiddle-y right now). Aside from what i said in my video (on my channel), i'll share what i would like in a future Bitwig here :D 1. Fix the broken Touchcontrol (10:37 to 14.45 in that video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX2npJupfdJ_j9E 2. Option to show Gridlines behind (within) Clips in the Arranger. 3. Playhead should stay visible, when Space, or Shift+Space is used! 4. Play from Cursor in the Editor! Clicking in the Editor should switch playhead position to that spot. 5. Scrubbing the Playhead should be possible. Ideally with a visual synchronization of Arrangement-Timeline and Detail-panel. 6. Further improve transient/onset detection! 7. Add a “one button” Audio Quantization based on slicing on onsets. 8. Add a secondary “one button” Audio Quantization based on warp-stretching. 9. Option to have a default tool! When switching from the Arranger to the Detailview while editing, and then coming back to the arranger, many people coming from other DAWs assume that instead of the last used tool, Bitwig switched back to the default (pointer) tool. This behavior should exist as option! 10. Seeing parameter values in automation lanes instead of percentage, as an option. A must for precise and informed automation. 11. Adding additional Post Recording Settings for a true Live-Looping Experience like Audio-Overdub and Midi-Track-Overdub. Explanation here: bitwish.top/t/looper-live-looping-functions/4610 12. Solve piano roll issues: - no more showing the wrong note-region (C7/8), - automatic zoom to fit for midi and audioclips, - see midi cc lanes in the normal detail view, - add custom preferences for detail view like note audition turned off/on or showing velocity and sustain pedal., - option to make doubleclick create notes based on grid-size 13. Option to adjust Loop length with a shortcut! +/- 1 bar. 14. Option to make Copy&paste and duplicate non-destructive. Right now, audio/midi clips which are in the way of pasted or duplicated Clips get destroyed/deleted forever. There should be the option to instead of destroying clips, they just get overlapped, while staying intact! 15. There should be a forth option in Bitwigs settings for "Default stretch mode", called "On using the stretch tool". Otherwise, a essential function of Bitwig (Alt+Drag) is rendered completely useless for Short samples, which for 99% of all producers have Strechmode=RAW turned on. 16. 15+ Years of Muscle Memory from Adobe Premiere, Audacity, Melodyne, Cubase, Ableton, Izotope RX, and many more Programs call for an option to make Shift+Mousewheel move the Arranger from left/right instead of up/down. On Windows. 17. Cue Markers get pushed into the wrong spot when changing Loopsize. When Loopsize is narrowed/lengthened again, the cue marker stays there and doesn’t follow! 18. “Activate/Deactivate” Plugin should be Midi-Assignable! The general shortcut for “activate/deactivate selected item/track” is not enough, as it is useless for quickly managing Latency and RAM usage of specific Plugins in a huge Liveset. 19. Show Peak levels in decibel in the normal mixer panel, not just in the Big Meters of the MIX View! The arranger needs to show peak levels in its mixer. 20. Option to change the colorization of the VU Meters. Right now they show red where there’s still -10db headroom. 21. Let users decide to show Arranger, Mixer Panel AND Device Panel at the same time. 4k Monitors could show everything with ease, and the constant panel-switching would stop forever. [No, a second screen doesn’t do the job. This is a feature request for one big monitor.] 22. Display/Interface-Scaling below 100% should be possible. 23. “Select Device” should be Midi-Assignable. Bitwigs viewfocus should follow the selection. 24. Vertical zoom of Tracks needs a shortcut+mousewheel action. 25. Mappings Panel needs a SCROLL BAR! 26. “Plugins crashed” and “Plugins Missing” must show WHICH ones! 27. Add a glue tool 28. Option for changing grid-strength and playhead-strength visually. 29. Drastically improve automation-editing, adding envelope shapes, removing the pudding-like-mouse-deceleration/acceleration of vertical movement, adding quick-editing tools like in Ableton and Cubase. 30. Add Audio-to-Midi, equally good or even better than in Ableton. Integrated in Bitwig, not as a grid-addon which works less precisely and/or without easy and fast drag&drop action. 31. Add CPU Meters in Tracks 32. Add Clip-Playback-Progress showing in the Track in addition to within the Clip! incredibly important for big Livesets! 33. Improve the Midi Scripts. It’s just incredibly sad that there’s no natively working bi-directional midi-script. (Minute 29:42 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX2npJupfdJ_j9E 34. ARA integration 35. Retrospective Audio Recording, together with optional intelligent quantization: Pulling the first recorded transient to fit perfectly on the “1”, for example. 36. Please give users additional API functions (especially for the OSC script): - Clip playback progress, or the length of each clip, so the clip playback progress can be calculated. - VU meter value in decibel, - VU peak hold level in decibel, - VU peak hold level reset function, - No longer separate FX tracks and normal tracks into banks. 37. Renaming anything in the interface shouldn’t need an ENTER to confirm it. 38. Option to set the automation fade time (currently 10ms, and unchangeable). 39. Everything else I mentioned in my video 😊

I guess some of these features would be cool but they arent deal breakers to me. There is a video called "5 Reasons why i would love to switch to Bitwig 5, but CAN’T" by Sternenherz who talks about some really important things that is also keeping me from sticking with Bitwig full time to make my music. I was ready to ditch ableton but instead I just upgraded to live 11 while I wait for Bitwig to iron out many of these feature requests. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX2npJupfdJ_j9E
