As far as I understand, floral foam is the worst kind of foam you can use from a health point of view. Mask while cutting, vacuuming well, and glue/paint coating is probably a good idea.

Glad to see you back at terrain build! I liked your terrain and mini crafts on Dankest Dungeon, and have really been missing your vibe and style in the craft side of things! Subscribed because I'm excited to see more of what you create!

Thank the algorithms for showing me your video. Not sure about flora foam for the reasons mentioned in the other comments. What are the other non-styrpfoam foam blocks people like for terrain?

You could make hills out of carboard by putting down a lot of layers. Just use filler/spackle to fill in the open edges.

I am pleasantly surprised to see the project be so successful. I have heard in the past that the floral foam can be difficult to work with. How did you find it to be?
@PerilsintheWarp Жыл бұрын
As far as foam goes, I would say it was easier to work with than the styrofoam used in packaging (that stuff makes such a mess!), but not as easy to work with as XPS foam :)

I don't know how your production is this good! Well done. Is this your first channel? It feels like a video from a channel with 100k subscribers 😁

Great techniques and great results (You got a sub from me), but man, that non-beaded floral foam is notorious in crafting circles...Apparently it gives off some seriously dangerous dust and vapors when heated (like during the hot glue gun stage), so take Jason's mask warning to heart, and watch your eyes, too. The ring looks like different stuff, before it was a "Mysterious Ancient Ring of Doom"-(trademark pending) was it beaded styrofoam (EPS)?
@PerilsintheWarp Жыл бұрын
Good to know! No matter much much I google the safety of the stuff I couldn't find anything saying it was dangerous at all, other than that you probably shouldn't eat it. The ring is also marketed as floral foam, but not the crunchy stuff.

@@PerilsintheWarp Yeah I totally agree. Since it's the internet it's hard to tell who's overreacting and who's pushing an agenda...From what I've gathered: 1) Everyone agrees it's really bad for the environment, so don't flush it. 2) Both the dust and the fumes are toxic to breathe in and can irritate the eyes, but it's probably safe in the amounts that your average crafter would be exposed to. If you worked in a floral shop or a factory where they make it that's probably a different story. I'm curious as to it's durability... I mean it's main deal is that it can hold 10x it's weight in liquid. Did it take forever to dry? I figured the PVA probably sealed up the outer shell but is the middle still smooshy?
@PerilsintheWarp Жыл бұрын
It's definitely not good for the environment, especially ocean life from what I have gathered, so if you buy any be sure to get some good, long use out of it and pass the terrain down to someone else when you're done with it instead of trashing it! The base coat does need to dry overnight, takes a good long while to dry that first coat. I've only played one game of 40K using it so far, and it held up well. But I imagine if you were to step on it or something like that, damage would definitely be a thing. It's also still susceptible to being poked/stabbed, but that's a problem for foam in general.
