I’ve been making Betties for over a half-century, and as good as this one looks, the hand pies are the real winner for me. I’ve never made good ones, but this recipe is definitely what I’m baking this weekend. Never occurred to me to use rough puff and never-ever would have made it in a bag. Thanks!

I think folding in a half like an empanada without crimping the one side would make them more like a Hostess pie and hold more filling.

How would you glaze the fruit pies to get them closer to Hostess? I love those room temp or even cold fruit pies

What on earth is a " hand pie ? " In the same vein , what on earth is an ‘ erb ?’ Greetings from the other side of the pond.

I've seen all of this already. When it first was showed on youtube a while ago, sales of "zipper-lock" plastic bags increased by 10%. Those bags are now decomposing in landfills, and another 10% increase is expected. No, you do not need a G-- D--- plastic bag to make dough. Stop. Please stop.

Do you have a reference to the "increase in sales" for ziploc bags? Justify your comment.

I like to triple bag mine in the super thick freezer bags with extra plastic for my pleasure. You know we can always mine the landfills later for plastic and other materials when it becomes more efficient to recycle them. As long as people aren't dumping them in the ocean

Stop making plastc. I grew up without it and did fine. Big business dictates what we do or use

@@Janeburns-mi9dhHow old are you? Growing up without plastic? Born pre-1960? Plastic was in wide spred use after WWII. By 1970s plastic bags were used lot. Not there are bio degradable plastic bags. There are also reusable freezer bags. Our family uses them all the time. Its not necessarily an all or nothing proposition to not overly impact the environment.
