another excellent video, you're so fortunate thar you don't get to go down the restaurant/bar potable ice rabbit hole with NSF containers and the food police/health inspector watching wait staff stacking buckets used to transfer drink ice to waitress stations and drink coolers. In high volume ice use I'm a big fan of 2 smaller icemakers on a large bin like your setup from a maintenance and performance standpoint. 2 500# heads on a 1000# bin makes life more enjoyable than 1 1000# head that can get temperamental always at the wrong time

Great video. I’ve had a commercial cube ice machine in my garage for over 25 years. I prefer Manitowoc equipment. I got a counter top pellet ice machine a few years ago. Works great. I enjoy maintaining and servicing my own equipment. Rebuilt a few ice machines. I was offered a free ice machine a few weeks ago, I might take it, all it needs is a water pump. It’s a big Manitowoc 750 and bin.

These videos are great; you come for a 2KW generator, and then you get an explanation on ice for drinks. I don't like ice in drinks because I don't want it watered down, and the fountains cool the drink with the ice in the bin, so it's good enough for me. I do like cold water when I do have ice, and after I ran the water through a reverse osmosis filter.

I agree with the other fans this is another insightful video. Who knew what it takes to make ice besides at home. My question is why didn't you mention anything about block ice? My friends and I used block ice in the coolers for food and would last. Now beverages were another thing, so we invested in dry ice as well. True dry ice is not always available, but it helps the other ice last longer. Shaved ice is great but so are cubes😊 . Loved the video's interesting take on ice and the production of it. And here is me 🤔 ng of the times I went to the local motel for free ice.😂

I was focusing in on ice you make yourself -- I agree ice blocks would make a cooler really last. -- and dry ice will also increase the time -- but again I was going for ice from your own machine -- thanks for watching

You were correct in that the pellet/flaker ice. It has more overall surface area to transfer heat. The down fall is it will melt quicker because of that. We have a GE opal counter top that makes sonic ice. I also have a cuber that I bought from Home Depot for 200$ in 2007. The ice it has a lot of thermal energy stored in it. To take 1lb of Ice at 32 degrees to 32 degrees of water is 144 BTU’s vs 1lb of water from 33 to 34 it is 1 BTU.

Thats cool -- its also interesting to contemplate that change of state law is why we can enjoy air conditioning by apply boyle's law to refrigerant gases -- shove all that energy in on side of the system pressurize it and release it on the on the other side at a much greater temp -- pretty cool - thanks for watching --

There is something that I need to clarify about Sonic and Chick-fil-A ice. Most people interchange the names of the ice. Sonic ice is the first chewable ice made by a Scotsman nugget ice machine. Ice-O-Matic also makes Sonic ice. Chick-fil-A nugget ice isn't made by Scotsman nugget ice machine. It is made by a Follett nugget ice machine. The type of nugget ice it makes is called "chewblet ice". Chewblet ice doesn't look like Sonic or Sonic-style ice. The nuggets are long with a cylinder or tube shape. It is my favorite type of ice. The nugget ice Chick-fil-A has is a smaller version of chewblet ice and it is called micro chewblet ice. Some Starbucks are switching to micro chewblet ice for cost-shavings reasons You can also get chewblet ice from the Symphony brand made by Follett. Most hospitals have this brand...hence the name "hospital ice". Wawa, Mapco, Publix, Casey's, Huck's, Sheetz , QuikChek, Ikea, Circle K, BP and Mobil "On the Run", and Whataburger to name a few has chewblet ice. Some Circle Ks, Speedway and 7-11 have Follett 7 or 15 nugget ice machines in their coffee area. They are referred to them as ice coffee ice machines. Perfect chewblet ice is cloudy, smooth and shiny in appearance. It should be soft and chewy in texture. Perfect Sonic ice looks like tiny cylinders and is soft and chewy. Depending where you go to get it, it has a snow texture. Raising Cane's, Auntie Anne's, Thorntons, Racetrac, Captain D's, Sphinx, Mod Pizza, Lions Choice, and Parker's stores to name a few have Sonic ice because have Scotsman or Ice-O-Matic nugget ice machines. QT has chunklet ice made by Cornelius ice machines. Jimmy John's ice is made by a Hoshizaki nugget ice machine. Manitowoc nugget ice machines is used by some coffee shops. BTW, I liked the video and I learned alot from watching it.

Would their be any advantage to bagging and freezing ice for use on deployments? just thinking it might last longer and also be easier to transport either by the pallet or freezer full. Also are you aware that Gatorade type drinks are available in powder form for ease of storage and transport, we used them for the road service guys, easy to distribute and mix as needed, just add to ice water.

Yes to the powdered drinks -- great idea. We have also used those kind that come in a straw that mix single bottle of water. We sometimes bag our own ice from our machines, as we have shown in other videos we take ice in coolers and keep those stored in the front area, we keep this at 34 degrees and coolers with the ice will last 10 days -- thanks for watching

I have so many questions about who David is, his educational background and work experience. I've now watched him talk about internet services, fuel trailers, temp power distribution systems, working on Ford pickup trucks, creating spam bots to convince a big box retailer to carry a product. Converting semi trailers into campers. Now I just watched that he is apparently a bit obsessed with ice. Who is this guy? What is his story? He tells good stories and is great at explaining things. But who is David?
