So yea, this is great intel. Yet this evening, before seeing your vids, just finished turning the soil in two 5X10 beds that are about 18 - 24 inches in depth. What I did was remove the soil & layer chicken manure - hay mixture, covering each layer with 5 to 6 inches of the soil. Soil was already dark in color via several years of chicken manure compost. After seeing this vid, now realize might be exposing the saplings to unwanted microbes. Yikes! Spinach, Bok Choy, Red Leaf, & such for a spring harvest. Time will tell. 🤠

I’ve been doing it wrong. Usually I just put it outside the coop on the side and over a while when it loses scent I use it. But I just put some on my storage roof to dry some more as it’s actually been hot for over a month in its pile. It’s clumped and still really hot and scented. But some parts are dry. In short I thought you dried it first and then compost with leaves. But I guess I’ll get some of the grass cuttings from work tomorrow and just move it to a different spot and add the heads cuttings to it as it does it’s thing huh. I also have a piece of tarp I can use for it. :o very helpful. I at least learned something new here. As I was thinking I would have to dry it and then grind it down into a powder and then compost it. 😊😅

I had some manure that I forgot in a ole bag on the land, when I went to the area, it has some moss growing on the side along with rooted plants and small trees growing on the bag. Inside is a super fluffy and light soil that just feels good and squishy. Can this be used as fertilizer or just all new soil? Asking since it has worms etc in it. So I’d just use it in a pot for my DraGonfruits and some veggies I want to plant in pots.
@Alisorganics Жыл бұрын
Sounds like it’s broke down enough to be used as soil. You could add just a little bit of potting soil just to be on the safe side. But more than likely with the worms, and other activity it’s completely broke down. 😉

Yes, It can have alfalfa seeds or other that may have been grown with the alfalfa, But by heating up the compost to 140 - 160° F and turning it this kills of weed seeds as well. It doesn’t have to be used though. Other organic matter can be used. I use it because it is otherwise waste and haven’t had any issues.

So, if the temp of the pile is 135 to 145 at highest then theoretically you could wrap up a ham(I believe internal temp of 140 is done) in some foil and not heat up the kitchen. Just kidding. Don't attempt this. Who wants a manure flavored ham.

That would be called essence of chick poo? 😂😱 I’ve used it in my greenhouse to heat it up in the winter. Worked fair, but smelly!!!!!

We put wood chips/shavings in our chicken coop. Can we just use that to make compost? Or do I have to add greens to it?
@Alisorganics Жыл бұрын
It will work. The green material just speed up the process. We use the wood shavings as well.
