I'd be thankful for the written recipe of it! I 'll learn this example with my students in Ukraine

The fact that you ACTUALLY USED PLUMS in this plum pudding is fantastic! Now THIS sounds like a Christmas pudding I could eat! And sliced, it looks wonderfully moist and full of plumped fruit. Most recipes I've come across sound so much like our American fruit cake, dry and tasteless, which is another tradition I avoid. Thank you for omitting the suet and raisins. I much prefer plump fruit over shrivelled and dry. Very excellent! This one I may try.

Not all dried plums/prunes are shriveled and dry. Prunes are dried plums.

What's wrong with suet?

Good tip if using organic apricots - they tend to be hard and tough as they don’t have sulphur dioxide added. Soak them in boiling water for a good minute or so before adding them to the pudding. They’ll be easier to chop and be softer/nicer when the pudding is cooked.

Christmas pudding gets such a bad rep. But now that I've seen it, I will like to taste it. It looks so delicious. Thank you.

I have never seen “mixed vine fruit” sold in our supermarkets. What fruits does the Mix contain?

Raisins, Sultanas and currants and some have dried orange and lemon peel in them as well.

@@richardk5246 is not Sultana mean raisin!!
@richardk52463 жыл бұрын
@@samarpitabhattacharya5953 Raisins and sultanas are both dried grapes but both are distinctly different. The sultana is from a seedless green/golden grape. In the US they sometimes called Golden raisins, just to confuse matters.

@@richardk5246 what is raisin then?? The very light yellow ones and black ones??.
@richardk52463 жыл бұрын
@@samarpitabhattacharya5953 Raisins are usually a little bit bigger, but not always and they're a dark colour. Sultanas and raisins taste similar but there is a difference. They're used quite a lot in traditional British dishes, usually alongside raisins and currants.

ASIDE: whether or not the dried apricots are brown has nothing whatsoever to do with being organic, and everything to do with being oxidized. Standard methods to keep them golden are (if I recall) applying lemon juice or ascorbic acid (vit c) as an anti oxidant, and usually a little winemaker's sulfite (potassium metabisulfide, aka water purification powder), and storing in a low oxygen environment during processing until dried. Personally, if theyre brown, I dont buy them (prunes yes, apricots NO). Last, although im sure the combo of prunes and apricots tastes great, im constantly amazed at how few recipes for figgy pudding actually have any figs in them. I guess it must be like hamburgers not containing ham, or hot dogs not containing dog meat.

Yes. The longer you boil if the darker and more squidgy it gets :)

Mixed fruit can often include citrus fruit like orange and lemon peel so with vine fruit you know you aren’t going to get those if you don’t want them
