This was a fun and LONG experiment but I really do love making these kinds of videos. I hope you enjoy watching them and please let me know if there are any other experiments you would like to see 😊

This was a great video! I love your perseverance in getting the best possible clarification. I've been playing around a lot with charcoal filtering for some homemade liqueur I've been clarifying. I suspect the lack of flavor in your experiment is because of the brita filter -- i've found that charcoal will preserve most of the flavor if you don't let it sit for too long. It will also successfully filter with a coffee filters -- you can even get away with using one filter. What works for me is to pour it into the filter, let it drip for about 5 minutes and then pour the cloudy filtrate back into the filter and start again -- this gives the charcoal a chance to settle on the bottom of the coffee filter and from this point the filtrate is clear. In my experiments, I'm not trying to get rid of all of the color, just the cloudy particulate of the sugar and a little bit of pigment -- 1g/liter with a 1.5 hour rest works really well. It just takes an age to filter (>_

Thank you ! i love the idea. though, i have a question. when you finally reached your goal, did you just filter through Brita your Starbucks cold brew, or you did firstable a milk clarification, then the activated charcoal clarification, and finally you put it in the Brita (3 or 4 passes), so it would be a 3 steps clarification process ? Thank you
@TheWeePearl8 ай бұрын
Hi! I ran through the activated charcoal clarification, but I did just try the brita filter with the cold brew too. I ended up having to run the straight cold brew through 3 times. It still had a slight brown tint, but was very clear

If you use gelitine instead of Agar it works much better. More of the color is removed and it's much much clearer. I tried this same experiment with Orange juice and coffee a couple years back with gelitine and it worked extremely well!

I reckon some sort of coffee or milk foam would take this to a different level. Amazing work getting this far without any special equipment, I tried in a bar for a week once and gave up.

One of the reasons people clarify drinks is to remove particles for machine carbonation without foaming. I'd be curious if clarifying coffee would allow you to make a carbonated coffee.

I need help! I want to clarify Puerto Rican Coquito. Can you tell if is possible? And what would be the best method? Thanks in advance.
@TheWeePearl10 ай бұрын
Hello! I love this idea and I want to do it! This is the method that should work (in theory): 1. Toast powdered coconut milk in the oven at a low temp (200- 250F) 2. Combine the evaporated milk and rum 3. Reconstitute the coconut milk per the instructions 5. Combine the coconut milk and rum mixture and let rest overnight. 6. This should separate like milk punch. Run ith through a fine filter/ nut milk bag until clear- might take a few passes 7. Add a rich simple syrup (2:1) 8. Add to a blender with a very small amount of xanthan gum (0.25% by weight) and blend for 1 minute. This will look cloudy after, but will settle clear 9. Put everything into a freezer safe container with a few tablespoons of virgin coconut oil and stir to combine and then put in the freezer for an hour or so. 10. Remove the solid coconut oil and let it thaw 11. Serve with a light sprinkle of cinnamon

I think you made a mistake at 2:05, you're weighing out 2 percent of the coffee for agar agar, hence 51g multiplied by 0.02, not 0.02 percent as you narrated.
