I watched all 4 learning videos and they were very educational. Thanks to the many awesome soap makers who recommended that people like myself watch your videos. I am confident that when i make my first soap it will be an experience. I am so excited to start so that my family can enjoy using natural healthy soaps.

Thank you for this series. I've been watching over and over - working up the courage to make my own. I'm happy to say I made my first batch of cp soap yesterday and had your video paused ready to play just in case. :) I unmolded and cut today. Looks great. There's a little soda ash around the sides and a little cracking on top - so I am guessing it cooled a little too quickly. It still looks beautiful. Can't wait to try again so I can eventually add cp soap to my line! Thank you! I love BB!

Hi, I was wondering if maybe you could do a video of a proper way to clean your tools and counters and what not after soap making. A friend pointed out something about the stuff left over on your bowls and blender could possibly ruin your pipes if washed down the drain right away. She says she plugs her sink and lets it sit over night before draining. How do you do it? How can I prevent any of my items from being ruined?

I am with baritny92. You have me all hooked on M&P soaps now & I am just having so much fun with them so I would love to know if you will do more videos too. I would enjoy some info about using dried fruit slices like orange slices in my soaps. Every book I see at the bookstore has some super CUTE slice of soap with an orangey-honey color to them with a slice of an orange inside it, so cute. I tried it but my slice turned black still. Will that ALWAYS happen, even if dried? Thanks so much!!!!

@bramble-berry

Thanks so much, glad you love the videos! Cold process soap doesn't melt like melt and pour. Instead of turning into liquid, it stays a solid form. So, it can't be used like melt and pour, but you can rebatch it! Learn how here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/cold-process-soap/soap-queen-tv-presents-how-to-make-rebatch-soap-2/

hello and thank you so much. I've only been soaping for 1 month and I'm addicted! My last 2 batches have had about 10-25 white pin head size specks throughout all cut sides. I've tried mixing the titium dioxide with water and oil but I have no idea what else to do or what I'm doing wrong. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks again for your many inspirations!!
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
NancyKaye Alexander Hi there! You're welcome! Isn't soaping so fun? Hmm, I'm wondering if your soap has air bubbles. Those form when air gets trapped inside the batter. They can look like little white specks in the soap. The great news is the soap is still fine to use, it's just an aesthetic thing. =) To help prevent air bubbles, pour the lye water slowly down the shaft of your stick blender. Then, tap the head of the stick blender on the bottom of the bowl before pulsing. That helps release any air trapped underneath. It also helps to tap your mold on the counter after the soap is in the mold. Those bubbles will rise to the surface and pop. Read more about air bubbles and how to prevent them here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/soapy-mess-quick-guide/

Thank you so much for all your helpful videos! I'm wondering if you have to subtract the amount of water from your recipe when using the diluted lab colors? Same question for when you are mixing the micas with oils prior to adding to the soap; does that oil get subtracted from the recipe too?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Keena! So glad you like the videos! Also, that's a great question. You don't have to subtract any water or oils from your recipe when adding LabColors and other colors. It's typically such a small amount it just adds some extra luxury to your soap. If you don't want the extra oil in your soap, you can mix your colors from your batch of oils you're using for soaping! Simply pull off 1 Tbsp. of your oils and mix in 1 tsp. of coloring. Hope that helps!

You definitely can add beet root powder to cold process soap! In general though, it will fade to gray or brown once the soap has cured. If you think you need a preservative, try adding Optiphen or Phenonip to your recipe. Hi, Anne-Marie! Thanks so much for the helpful videos! I'm wondering if when you're doing swirls, can you use Lab Color and an oxide/mica? Thank you in advance!
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica! Absolutely! We love using oxides in our cold process soap. To use them, mix 1 tsp. of colorant with 1 Tbsp. of a light carrier oil, like sweet almond oil. Mix that well and add the dispersed color to your soap. You can also use this method with micas. Keep in mind some micas do morph in cold process. If they do morph, they will say so in the description on brambleberry.com. =) This Talk It Out Tuesday: Colorants post has more information on coloring your soap: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/talk-it-out-tuesday-colorants/ You can use LabColors for swirls as well! Because LabColors are water based, they will bleed. @bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 8 жыл бұрын
+happy “happygrandma” grandma Hi there! How much color you need depends on several factors, like the type of color, fragrance and color of the oils. Typically, we recommend mixing at a rate of 1 teaspoon of color to 1 tablespoon of a lightweight oil, like sweet almond oil. If you're making a larger batch, you may need to mix 2 teaspoons of the colorant into 2 tablespoons of oil, or 3 teaspoons into 3 tablespoons. Then, add the color 1 dispersed teaspoon at a time until you get a color you like. =) Read more in the How to Get Vibrant Colors in Soap post: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/how-to-get-vibrant-colors-in-soap/

Hi Danielle! Absolutely! Many soapers do that to save time. You can store the color and oil in an air tight container. The shelf life of the mix will be the shelf life of the oils. You can find oil shelf lives here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/free-beginners-guide-to-soapmaking-common-soapmaking-oils/ Also, make sure to mix the colorants well before using them as the powder can settle. =)

***** thank you! This made my life a tonne easier. Can you recommend a ratio of powder to oils for the mix?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
Danielle Harty You're welcome! We recommend 1 tsp. of powder colorant to 1 Tbsp. of oil. That works out to a 1:3 ratio. =)

I need help with a CP recipe!!! I am replacing Beef Tallow with Palm oil in a recipe and can I use the same amount called for in the recipe? Example: 30 oz of beef tallow replaced with 30 oz of Palm oil????
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
Debbie Oman Hi Debbie! You can use palm oil instead of beef tallow! It adds firming qualities to your soap like beef tallow does. We recommend using palm oil at 30% or less in the recipe. So, if that tallow is 30% or less, you can replace it with the same amount. =) Make sure you run that recipe through the Lye Calculator again after any substitutions: www.brambleberry.com/Pages/Lye-Calculator.aspx This post on substituting oils in cold process recipes may be helpful for you: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/how-to-substitute-oil-in-cold-process-recipes/ This post also has some great information on soaping oils and how to use them: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/free-beginners-guide-to-soapmaking-common-soapmaking-oils/

The mold in the video has been discontinued, but our 12 Cavity Silicone Mold is very similar. The dimensions are 2" X 3" X 1-3/8". You can find that mold here: www.brambleberry.com/12-Cavity-Rectangle-Silicone-Mold-P5536.aspx

Hi Susan! Palm oil adds nice hardness to your bar, and there isn't a direct replacement for it. However, you can definitely leave it out of your recipe! We have several great palm-free recipes on soapqueen.com. Keep in mind, palm-free recipes are very soft. This means they will take longer to come out of the mold (a week or more) and longer to cure (three months or more). To speed up this process, I would recommend adding sodium lactate. Add 1 tsp. per pound of oils to your cooled lye water. =) A Palm-Free In-The-Pot Swirl: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/cold-process-soap/a-palm-free-in-the-pot-swirl/ Palm-Free Vertical Twist Tutorial: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/cold-process-soap/palm-free-vertical-twist-tutorial/ Formulating Cold Process Recipes: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/formulating-cold-process-recipes/ Sodium lactate: www.brambleberry.com/Sodium-Lactate-P5127.aspx

can I use food color in the cold process?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 7 жыл бұрын
We don't recommend using food coloring. Because it's not specifically made for soap, it can morph, fade or bleed. Soap colorants work best! Cold process colors: www.brambleberry.com/For-Cold-Process-Soap-C449.aspx

I made a mistake and I mixed in an aluminum container. do I toss the soap?
@phthalasaur1289
@phthalasaur1289 7 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you let me answer... Lye is corrosive to aluminum containers (especially if the lye is hot), so your soap could have aluminium traces removed from the recipient which are not good for health. To avoid this you could use plastic containers. Also, stainless steel containers or borosilicate glass such that used in video are good choices. But both (stainless steel and borosilicate glass) suffer attack by lye if the contact time is too long (more than 1-2 hour).

Hi. I am writting to you from Slovenia. When i make sope is at the end always very stiff pudding. When i poured into models is never smooth, and i need help with a spoon. Its never so currrent like yours. Why is it so? Thanx
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
Hello! It sounds like your soap may be at thick trace. Thick trace is the consistency of thick pudding, and typically is too thick to pour. The soap in this video is thin to medium trace. To get that consistency, stick blend just until your oils and lye are emulsified. Depending on your recipe, that can take as little as 30-60 seconds. It also helps to have your oils and lye around 100-130F. =) You can see a great example of thin trace and how to get it in the All About the Trace post: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/trace/

I made some CPOP Soap with black pigment and titanium dioxide. the soap was bleeding black after it dried and the belled was during use. Also the soap was slimey. Super fat at 5% IDK what went wrong. =(

+NOMNOMZ GUY Oh no, I'm sorry about that! I'm wondering if the soap separated. Separated soap can leak oil, which may explain the bleeding. Separation can happen for several reasons, including heat or temperature fluctuations. Can you tell me a bit more about your recipe, including how long you stick blended for? Also, what fragrance did you use? How hot was the oven when you CPOPed the soap? Thank you!
