Hi, liked the video and decide to give you a some tips on concrete vibration to avoid any bobbles. instead of pouring the all amount in the mould and them vibrate divide by 3 portion. 1/3 - Vibrates, then 2/3 vibrate and finish with 3/3 and vibrate a little more this way is easier for the bubbles to come up. Advice for a concrete worker expert. Good luck and i loved you jars. From Mozambique

I also work in a dental lab and pour models all the time! It helps to start the vibrator on low first and then slowly pour in your mixture into one corner - swirl it around (while holding it on the vibrator) allowing it to coat the mold evenly then continue to slowly pour increasing vibration as you go! You can also buy a debubblizer spray which you spray on the mold prior to pouring (probably expensive since everything dental related is!) hopefully this helps with the bubbles!

I use the same molds from Modern Craft Labs! I love them. I have found a little thicker consistency helps with the bubbles as well. When I pour I tap the middle of the mold with my mixing spatula to help get the concrete down into the mold. And I have had either no holes in my jar or maybe two or three on the outside near the bottom! I was actually looking into that type of sealer as well because I use a water-based polyurethane sealant and it just didn't feel right using it. Thank you for sharing this sealant because I was trying to figure out which one would be best for candles.

It's me... your esteemed 100th subscriber!!! Woot. :-) You should ABSOLUTELY keep making videos, and here's why. A.) These little concrete jars look awesome! I'd never seen or heard about concrete jar candles, but now I feel much more 'on the pulse.' :-) ... B.) And most importantly... your voice and demeanor are... literally... amazing for making 'How-To' videos. I hate to admit it, but.. I watch so much KZbin, that I think if I ever stopped watching, Google would send someone to my house to make sure i'm okay. And after watching that much KZbin, I can tell you, nothing gives me eye-roll-of-the-soul, more than clicking on a video to... yet another... energy-on-11... perma-grin... speed talking person rifling through a poorly planned KZbin video. You... in wonderful contrast... are super chill... have a laid back tone... and within 45 seconds or so... I was already thinking about clicking to see how many more videos you have. The links in the comments are also awesome! I don't mean to turn this comment into a Dancing with the Stars'esque critique session... but... in my opinion... straight 10's!

Try cutting rings out of thin mdf 6mm thick maybe, cut through in one part so the ring can open slightly and they should be flexible enough to spring back in shape when you place them over your moulds. As long as the inside diameter is the same as the moulds ouside diameter there is no reason why they will not hold their shape. Just thought this might help, thanks for the vid.

@calafiacandleco2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t wash them. It’s just the finish the sealer leaves. Sort of tacky feeling. It doesn’t bother me because I only seal the inside, and so that will get covered up with wax. If you want to seal the outside and don’t want that sticky feeling, the varnish by earth safe finishes is probably a better option.

I just stumbled on this after having problems with finding the vessels I want from my supplier (supply chain issues). I love this idea of making my own vessels! Your experience of what products to use for candle burning is helpful. Would you change vessel material to burn soy candles -- or is it generally same as your coconut wax candles? THANK YOU!

You shouldn’t need to change the vessel material. Any wax should work :). Good luck and thanks for watching!

Cool video. Was looking videos on when to start growing seeds in the spring and your video came up. While the concrete is curing, have you thought of placing your mold into something circular to force the mold to hold it's shape? Perhaps a piece of wood with a hole cut out that is placed around the mold 1" from the top.

I have considered that in the past. I have now completely moved on from those molds, though. I invested in more of the modern craft labs molds and haven't looked back since! Haha

Thanks for the video, very informative. I’ve got one suggestion and one question. Suggestion: for the Amazon molds, the exterior diameter seems to be really close to the inside diameter of 3” schedule 40 PVC pipe. It seems like if you cut a piece of pipe the same hugest as the mold, you could put the mold inside the pipe and it would hold its shape better. Question, and please forgive my ignorance. Is sealing the inside of the jar really necessary? It seems like the wax would seal it.

Thank you for the tip, but I have fully transitioned to the blue molds. They are much better quality and made to handle concrete, unlike the Amazon ones. Yes, sealing is necessary. Concrete is very porous and the wax/fragrance oil will seep through the jar if left unsealed. Thanks for watching!

Map gas and glass glaze. These would be great for hydroponics. Where and what do you use for cement?
