Hello Marie, my name is Alkisti, I am from Greece, and I have been watching you for a long time, trying to do what you do. So, I tried to make this conditioner, and I did! Some notes: 1. The vinegar smells too much, I couldn't cover up the smell with the 35 drops of essential oils, I put around 40-45. (I know I shouldn't change the analogies). 2. I replaced BTMS with OLIVEM1000 (I can't find BTMS in Greece), and it worked out perfectly. I was afraid it wouldn't be stable (as I have read online), but it is just fine, and not greasy at all. So, thank you so much!

I absolutely love your recipe. The second time i made it i made some changes. I actually used behentrimonium 250 instead of bmts 50. For essential oils i used ylang ylang and bergamont. It smells awesome. People keep asking me what i do to my hair since it looks much healthier and smoother and i told them i used the Beebee recipes. That's what my little one calls you. We love to watch the recipes on the big TV.

ok so i’m not sure if you’ve addressed this, i can’t seem to find it (but i could be missing something).. the amount of essential oil/fragrance and silk peptide are by drops/tablespoons instead of calculated grams - do those not need to be measured exactly like the other ingredients? why? thank you, you’re lovely and wonderful and have seriously created an obsession for me here 😝
@HumblebeeAndMe6 жыл бұрын
Hey! So, there is some more flexibility with those ingredients. For the silk; a bit more or less won't break it, and for the EOs, most people do not own a scale precise enough to weigh them out. I have been doing everything in weights/percentages more recently, but this is an older recipe :)

Hey Kat! You can really use whatever EOs you want to-perhaps do some research into ones that are good for your hair (dry/curly/oily/etc.) and go from there. I'd probably aim for approximately the same amount I used, but definitely trust your nose as your guide :) Happy making!

A lot of these recipes I find are for long hair. I have very short hair. I would like to try a recipe but have limited ingredients on hand. I have: cocoa butter, regular unsalted butter, sweet almond oil, vegetable glycerin, extra virgin olive oil, honey, and extra virgin coconut oil, vanilla extract. I am looking to make a body butter and something to take away the wavyness of my hair and make it straighter. ( It looks really unkept otherwise and drives me insane. It's a short trip... .lol😁)
@HumblebeeAndMe6 жыл бұрын
For the purposes of DIY, you have cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, glycerin, olive oil, honey, and coconut oil-vanilla extract and butter are for cookies, not skin care :) You've got the makings of a body butter (www.humblebeeandme.com/coco-cocoawhipped-body-butter/), but if you want a hair conditioner you'll need some ingredients like BTMS-50 and a preservative. I'm not sure how straightening will go, though-that sounds like a chemical hair relaxant to me, though I'm no expert in that area.

Thanks for your response! Prior to posting my question i did loads of reading, like up until 3 am reading and researching until my brain was about to explode, but could not find an answer. When i google "should i use a preservative when using castille soap" I get no answer. The recipe is basically 8oz water, 1oz castille and essential oils. If u could please let me know I'd appreciate it. Or point me to where i can get a clear answer. Thanks so much for all you do!
@HumblebeeAndMe7 жыл бұрын
Soap is self preserving on its own, but something that heavily diluted should have one. The question isn't really "should i use a preservative when using castille soap", it's "should i use a preservative when using water", which is likely why you didn't get an answer that was clear :) Many things do not require a preservative if pure (soap, salt, honey, sugar), but require a preservative when mixed with water!

Is this leave in conditioner or a normal conditioner that I should wash off?
@HumblebeeAndMe5 жыл бұрын
This was designed to be a rinse-out conditioner :)
@pinkpastelhearts5 жыл бұрын
how can you go about making sure that the conditioner doesnt melt or go bad after youve made it cause i would get worried of making the conditioner and it would do that if i had it in the bathroom. ive been doing a plain yogurt and clover honey conditioner recipe which is good, i just get worried about it melting and going bad and i keep thinking if it was better if i kept it in the fridge.
@HumblebeeAndMe5 жыл бұрын
It doesn't melt because it's an emulsion, and it doesn't go bad because we include a broad spectrum preservative :)

Thanks for the info. I wonder if I could use btms25 and double the weight of the btms50???
@heidicroucher3 жыл бұрын
No. You can use the same amount. You will just have a product that is slightly thicker and a bit less conditioning. (But not drastically) You should try it!!

can i use Cyclomethicone (and or) Dimethicone instead of the silk peptides?
@HumblebeeAndMe8 жыл бұрын
Not really, they're very different, with totally different solubility. You could try swapping out 1 or 2g of the oil for an equal amount of a silicone, and the silk is optional, but that wouldn't really be a substitute, just a change :)

Thanks!!! I also ordered Hydrolyzed Rice Protein . will that be useful in this product?

Please tell me what's the difference between btms 50 and btms 25? I ordered the 25 thinking it was 50. Can I still use it for this conditioner?
@HumblebeeAndMe7 жыл бұрын
BTMS 25 has half the active conditioning matter; you can still use it, but the conditioner will be less conditioning :)

Hello..I don't get btms in India but a relative was kind enough to get some from usa but she got btms 25 ...so can I maybe increase the quantity of btms to make it more conditioning? And thank you❤️

My attempt at this conditioner turned out waaayyy thicker than yours did for some reason. I didn't have phytokeratin (just used extra water)or Vit E (used an additional gram of castor oil instead); apart from these variations I did exactly what you did in the video. First time mixing it was the same viscosity as yours is in the video, but 10 mins later it was already thicker than your final result. I can't use a funnel to help package this now... lame.

Awesome video BTW!!! Glad you decided to start making these :)
@HumblebeeAndMe8 жыл бұрын
Hmm. That's odd. The first culprit with different thickness levels is usually a different emulsifier, but if you didn't change that-perhaps your water part evaporated off a lot of water before you combined the two? Did you keep the water bath at a bare simmer and only leave it over the heat for ~30 minutes?

Humblebee & Me i think the difference is the extra gram she used of castor oil...that changed the ratio of oil-water

can i use emulsifying wax instead of BTMS? also i dont have silk availalble anytime soon!
@HumblebeeAndMe8 жыл бұрын
Maybe? "Emulsifying wax" isn't an ingredient, it's a very broad term for a wide variety of similar products that do similar things, and there are a bunch of different kinds, some of which will work, and some won't. Readers have reported that E-Wax NF and Emulsimulse don't work particularly well in this project, though I've only tried BTMS-50. You can definitely make it without silk, though! If you check the description box below the video all of this is written out there as well :)

if I wanted to make this thicker what would I do??
@HumblebeeAndMe6 жыл бұрын
The easiest way would be to switch 1g of castor oil and 1g of shea butter for 2g of cetyl alcohol :)

How did u eliminate the vinegar scent ..?
@HumblebeeAndMe6 жыл бұрын
It's not completely eliminated, but between the EOs and the fairly low amount of vinegar it's pretty subtle ☺️

Have you ever made detangling spray?
@HumblebeeAndMe6 жыл бұрын
I have, but I haven't shared anything. You basically want to make a spray with water, 2-3% cetrimonium chloride (check usage rates from your supplier as dilutions vary, so 2-3% may not be correct), and a preservative. Happy making!
