you can use your home-made yogurt for sour cream. Instead of the cream use whole milk and your yogurt culture.

@@LittleHillHomesteadGa Hi there, just a tip. I agree with @alteredLori. The point of making it homemade and homesteading is whole ingredients. That kroger cream has additives; even dangerous ones such like carageenan etc! So your sour cream you made here has those additives now; which is more then the Daisy's alone lol!!

I'm going to try this because when I've tried to make sour cream from scratch the other way, it never tastes like real sour cream and I have to thicken it. Thank you. And, yes, it's great and important that people can start with the "basics" to be able to go forward. Keep up the good work. I never imagined I could make any of the stuff you buy in the grocery store. 🤩

I make creme fraiche using high fat heavy cream and whole milk cultured buttermilk. 1 cup heavy to 3 Tbsp buttermilk. Just combine in a glass jar, stir and cover jar with a coffee filter and let it sit at room temp for 24 hours or until thick. Then what I like to do is transfer it to a nut milk cloth lined colander, over a bowl and covered with plastic wrap and strain overnight in the refrigerator. This makes a really thick cream. Thicker than Daisy sour cream. It lasts a long time in the refrigerator and unlike sour cream, it doesn't curdle when cooked

Thanks for the video! I used those plastic lids to make vanilla and after a while the alcohol evaporated because they aren't air tight. Learn from me.😂😂 I'm cleaning my fridge out today and I bet I had three or four jars of leftovers with those lids. I use them all the time.

I'm in Canada sour cream is under $3 cream is over $6. I'll just buy sour cream and use cream for my coffee.
@LittleHillHomesteadGa6 ай бұрын
Totally get that. I buy cream on sale and it’s less costly than the cleaner ingredient sour cream we buy. If you find cream on sale it is worth a try.
@fredthegreg4 ай бұрын
Now is your price comparison also in comparison to the volume? Will $6 of cream make the same volume of $6 sour cream ? In my location I can buy a quart of organic cream for about $6.49, and a quart of sour cream is almost the same at $6.99.

My local store brand has an alarming amount of crap in it. That in itself would make the price difference worth it to me.

Oh, Knudsons and Carnation in Ca, brought back memories. I found this after seeing a post about what's in sour creams. Daisy has the fewest, and costs less than homemade. We use plain yogurt instead of sour cream.
