Omg. I have literally watched nearly 20 videos on how to do this and not one of them worked for me -- until I came across yours. I am so thrilled! Thank you so much!

This is a great video! Thank you for sharing the process. I have watched your video along with a bunch of other suggestions on how to do this. I have submitted feature request to Canva. I think this process and a few other processes are way too long and Canva should build functionality that allows all of us to skip these kind of steps. Here’s what I sent them and I’m hoping it will encourage others to do the same… Feature request that would make you Canva users ecstatic: 1. Automatic export and import of file so Canva user does not have to transfer it through the Internet back-and-forth but the process would be emulated instantly by Canva. 2. Automatic conversion of black colors into custom frame shapes. I see lots of information regarding how to do things like make custom frame shapes. That and many other commonly performed functions should be a built-in feature in Canva. Too many users are exporting/downloading only to then immediately import/upload the file back to Canva so that they can continue using Canva for other steps.

Yes, this is true. I don't typically use Canva elements as frames (I only did this as a demo); I usually convert brand assets I design for clients into frames to give them more versatility. The download-upload workaround in Canva can be a bit frustrating, particularly if you are used to using specialist design software. Maybe one day, that functionality will be available. 🤞

Let's say you want to create a frame for a mockup, like for instance, a phone case.... so it's not just a shape, but it's a shape within a photo, such as a girl holding her cell phone, and you want the cell phone case to be a canva frame. Do you know how to do that?
@ThinkWonky3 ай бұрын
I suspect that will involve creating a frame for the screen and uploading that as part one, cutting the screen out of the image and uploading it as part two, and layering. Alternatively, Illustrator might be a better option. If I have some play time in the next few weeks, I'll give it a go. 😉

does it have to be a pdf? I tried this and it does not work. When I try to select with magic wand it won't highlight the entire thing, only parts of it. I have my own images I want to convert to frames. They are in png or jpg.
@ThinkWonky Жыл бұрын
Yes, PDF. There is another way with a PNG, but it’s messier. The PDF maintains the fidelity of the shape and allows more flexibility. If you’re using magic wand you need to click and hold shift to add selections. Or use the object select tool to auto-select the whole object. 😉

Can I hire you to make custom ones for me? I'm having trouble making it. It just doesn't work for some reason.

Can the frames have a transparent background on Canva?
@ThinkWonky Жыл бұрын
The frames are placeholders for an image; they are isolated shapes designed to have an image or colour inserted. So the canvas can have a transparent background, but not the frame. You could, however, invert a frame so that the background is filled and the frame is transparent. Is this what you mean? If so, I'll record a follow-up tutorial. 😊
@houseful4him Жыл бұрын
@@ThinkWonky Yes. That is what I wanted the background behind the frames to have a transparent background.
@ThinkWonky Жыл бұрын
@@houseful4him In that case, yes. A blank canvas with a frame on it, can be downloaded as a PNG with a transparent background in Canva Pro. If you don't have Canva pro, you'll need to upload to remove.bg.

Hello, I need some assistance. Will you be able to create a video for us to be able to create a Canva Frame for a blank flat white Christmas ornament that hangs from a Christmas tree branch? I want to create ornament mockups, but I have not been able to figure out how to keep the string it should be hanging from gold, and that hole it slides through open to make it look realistic. Any help you can provide me would surely be appreciated. 😊
@ThinkWonky10 ай бұрын
The best way to do this is to use Illustrator. Do you have access to that?
@ThinkWonky10 ай бұрын
Alternatively, use layers: create the ornament frame as shown in the video, then add the thread as a separate layer.
@carlawallace-op7xe10 ай бұрын
No, I don't have Illustrator. I am new tothis whole thing, so very detailed instructions are important now. Thanks for responding.@@ThinkWonky
@ThinkWonky10 ай бұрын
@@carlawallace-op7xe ok - use layers on Canva. • Make the frame • Upload, position and add desired image • Upload original ornament with the thread attached. • Position over the frame, then crop so only thread is visible. Depending on the angle/position/frame shape this could be fairly simple or very faffy. You may even need multiple layers and crops. Good luck.
