It is always recommended to create planes on top of surfaces and using a separated uv set if you want to have a good quality on your decals.

Of course, but that would just be a new model in itself. In this guide I add a decal to an existing model without any extra geometry. The same steps I go through in this tutorial can be applied to a blank plane like you have described.

That's what i was about to comment, but both methods are fine.

You could provide a slower version please. You lost me in photoshop. Thanks

Amazing tutorial. Very easy to understand, follow along and grasp the underlying concept for a noob like me. Subbed and waiting for future videos 😁

You could think something like this should be fairly easy in a professional programm. Thank you for your tut, but I am quite disappointed that adding a decal is SO complicated.
@LilyLovecraft Жыл бұрын
it's not really that complicated, this is an entirely bloated way of doing it

Hey i have a question. Can i use illustrator to do the same thing? I would want to create this sticker in illustrator and then bring it to substance painter and place it on a model.
@Horizonik2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you'll have to export it as either PNG or JPG. I don't think substance painter supports the SVG (vector files) format.
@AkimboFennec2 жыл бұрын
@@Horizonik So with just exporting as a PNG, i dont have to touch Photoshop right? For example, i will create Harley Davidson logo from scratch in illustrator, and then bring it into substance painter? It would be cool if you could make a video showing how to make this camera sticker in Illustrator and exporting it into substance painter

@@AkimboFennec Yes you can use any image editor out there, GIMP and other software not from the adobe suite are an option too. Don't forget to color your shapes accordingly and do an alpha mask as well.

It's a nice explanation :) By the way, I notice that the diffuse texture and the alpha layer don't match on top as expected. Is there any alternative solution to fix it?
@Horizonik3 жыл бұрын
Hi, you could make a paint layer and add both the diffuse and the alpha to your brush, then when you paint they'd be placed exactly at the same spot. However, doing it that way won't allow you to adjust your texture channels like your rough or metal after you placed the decal on your object (paint layers don't allow that kind of channel adjustment, you'd have to set the exact channel values you want before painting).

@@Horizonik Got it. I found another alternative solution that is making a decal out of it in Designer and using the sbsar file as a Base Material in Painter. Thanks for your response.

good tutorial...but not really a decal. Can't scale, reposition, rotate etc.
@Horizonik2 жыл бұрын
You're correct, my mistake for not disclosing the exact nature of this tutorial. However, you can still do these exact steps shown in the video with the exception of adding your decal's alpha and diffuse to a fill layer (instead of a paint layer like the tutorial shows), that way you'd be able to move it across the X and Y and also scale it. Also, in the new substance painter 2022 there's a wrap option for decals which allows you to move or stretch them. Adobe has a really good video showcasing this feature on their "substance by adobe" youtube channel.

I'm just amazed you managed to turn a 2 minute process into an 8 minute exercise in patience.

You can always skip a few seconds forward if you feel something is irrelevant to you. Noted.
