I have watched a number of your videos and noticed your puzzle technique. Have you tried kerfing the wood to get bends like you need? It would keep the enclosure a solid piece of wood, but allow you flexibility in construction. Just an idea. I am not sure of the tools you have access to. I really enjoy your videos. I have not seen a lot of sound quality construction videos on youtube outside of your channel.
@pssound97494 жыл бұрын
anthony john lemoine kerfing is cool where it can be done, but in this case that would help. The kerf would need fibrefiller over it too to make it rigid, but by then i just join a corner in a regular way and be done with it way quicker. Yeah i know, SQ is hard! If it was easy, everyone would be sharing videos about it, right?

Hi Peter, can you tell if it's a bad bad idea to build a custom sub enclosure like that for a sedan (passat b5.5) and not an expensive sub, some entry level around 100euros, BUT without DSP tuning? just power and crossed by the amp? Thanks

Hi peter, quick question when your building an enclosure do calculate the volume that the speaker will take inside of it
@pssound97495 жыл бұрын
Hi, The displacement of the subwoofer is rather important when you design a ported box, in which case the volume of the box has to be measured exactly, because that determines the tuning frequency. When you build something custom like this, you can only estimate the size and hope for the best that it will be big enough for the requirements. Better speaker manufacturers list the sub's displacement too.
@ssalblowy5 жыл бұрын
thanks, that really helped
@i_kill_for_zardoz5 жыл бұрын
If you wanted to get crazy, you could get a rough estimate beforehand by pressing/scraping foam or clay into the cavity in the car, and then dipping it in water in a bucket. Checking the rise in displacement and doing some simple math will show you the raw volume ( before subtracting the enclosure)
@theejoeylee5 жыл бұрын
You calculate FIRST then choose a woofer based on that. Or build the enclosure first and glass the WHOLE inside....then u can fill with water to calculate the volume. Or use packing peanuts and dump them into a 12" x 12"x 12" box. 1 box = 1 cu ft. If the volume is a touch too small for the woofer you Want...use 1 Lb. Polyester filling per cubic ft. This has the acoustic effect of a slightly larger enclosure. Hope this helps.

Resul It can go louder than most SQ 10” subs in sealed, but after all it’s a 10”. If you want real violance in sealed, then use multiple, 2-3x of them. As per sound: it sounds very nice and very low from such a small sealed box.

B_12 the problem is that most fibreglass box builder “experts” think that a few mm thin FG mould is enough to make a box structurally solid too, but it’s not! To the time you build up the layers and the thickness too, that is not a joyful ride! If you like to work with resin in gloves and respirator, then go for it, but i’d pick this technique anytime over FG when possible. Horses for corses, right? 🤷🏻♂️
