Hi Kunihiro, I made your Gyudon recipe again tonight. I made another small change - I cut the onion in half before removing the root end. Then grated 1/2 of the onion with the root still attached. I found the root held all of the onion together, and I was able to grate the entire half onion, and not worry about cutting myself. This is one of my most favourite recipes on KZbin. Thank you again!

Hi Kunihiro, I 'must' have looked at 10-different Gyudon recipes, and I settled on yours as my go-to. You caramelized the onions! I followed your recipe to a T, and yes, I even found beef belly, and used the grated onion technique. I cannot tell you, this was the best Gyudon I have ever eaten. The only change I made was, instead of using aluminum foil as a drop lid, I used a glass lid, from a different (smaller) pot that I had.. Holy mackerel, this was delicious! I only used 180gm of beef, (that was the portion my store sold), and I have left overs for 1-more meal. But I already cannot wait - to share this dish with friends and family. Thank you!

I just realized you only make videos a few times a year. I hope you will increase your frequency, because I love your content. I am an American, but I watch sumo every Basho. I see the Japanese as respectful, beautiful, loyal people, with an eye for detail, history, and beauty. My mother, who is European, instilled in me a love of Asian cuisine, and I have developed an admiration of Japanese food in particular, having found recipes for karaage and many others on youtube. Your fresh, simple, unassuming style is easy to follow and understand. Most of us are home-cooks. And you cook that way, even though you are trained and talented in the sushi world. One of my favorite dishes to make when I'm busy, I start my rice cooker and come back and make everything else around 40 minutes later and it all finishes at the same time. Keep making the great videos, more people deserve to know how amazing Japanese food is!

It's a good day when Kunihiro uploads :) It made me smile that I immediately understood how you were going to tenderize the meat, as they also used the onion enzymes to tenderize steak in the Chaliapin steak-don recipe in Shokugeki no Soma hehe. Your two ways of using onion are something I haven't seen in other recipes and I indeed had the issue with tough meat. I'll try your recipe when I have time. Thank you Kunihiro !

After several attempts, I've nailed your recipe yesterday. Half way through the bowl, I added a raw egg for extra variety in taste. Spicy togarashi, smooth yolk; hot beef and broth, cold egg. Chewey and slimy (in a nice way) - it's a perfect composition of opposites. I highly recommend

i'm glad you said "until relatively clear" when washing the rice. i once tried to wash my rice until the water was crystal clear and it never happened..i suspect that the swishing around the rice was maybe knocking off some of the surface of the rice so that there was always a little white...if i had kept at it for a thousand washes i wonder if all the rice would be gone 🙂

Yes, you are right. If you rinse it too much, all the deliciousness will be lost. And it becomes soggy and mushy. I also once washed it until water was almost clear. It didn't taste good.😢 Thank you so much for watching my new video. Your comment made me smile.😊

Made this last night. Better than any frozen pack I've picked up or even ones I get from the stalls in Mitsuwa. So happy I can enjoy this comfort at home. Will make a bigger second patch to freeze soon.

i always went to YOSHINOYA'S Beef Bowl in calif..that was my number one place to eat, even when i came back on vacation, that was my every day dinner..ok lunch also....time to make this for my self in my food business...great video...any recommendations online where to get my sake, mirin, and Dashi ? i'd highly appreciate it

good that you explained about the beef cut and how to make it awesome. That is most important and I also wonder if we could use shank or some other cut with more tendons for that jelly feeling. What tendons cuts are best?
