This reminds me of the rainbow watercolor ink pads I made. I wanted to make business cards that reflected my personality, so I carved a rubber stamp from an eraser. I looked into buying a gradient ink pad, but they were both expensive and not quite what I wanted. I decided to experiment. I bought a set of children's watercolor paints, some felt, a 7-day pill organizer, and some small sealable storage containers. I chose my colors and popped each one out of the paint set and into one of the sections of the pill container with a bit of water and some rubbing alcohol. While those were soaking, I cut my felt to fit the stamp I'd carved, and once the paints were liquid I poured them over the felt, and squished them a bit to make a gradient. Then I let the whole thing dry, because I didn't want to deal with mildew or mold. To use the pad, I spritz it with water a few minutes before I'm ready to use it, then press down a few times with the stamp to get the paint activated. Surprisingly enough, this worked beautifully, and I made lots of cards I was proud to give out!

It's good to know about Gorilla Glue repairs for ink pads that have come loose. I hate when that happens.Also, when you were saying you could probably have made more ink for that dry ink pad, I thought about using a soup bowl which is one of the ones that are shallow and have flat bottoms so you could get depth to work with.

@thefrugalcrafter
@thefrugalcrafter 8 жыл бұрын
+Violet Verhoog chalk pastels do contain a binder. I tested the ink and it did not smudge after it dried, You can add a drp of glycerin to it if you are concerned but don't overdo it of it will be more like a pigment ink.

I see that this video was posted 5 years ago... but I'm just now seeing it because I did a search for rejuvenating dry chalk ink pads. I just literally glued a white chalk ink pad in its container last night... but I just used a little bit of glossy accents. It's adhered nicely this morning, but we'll see how it lasts in the long run... If you see this message, I have a question about the ink properties of the chalk pads. When adding just regular chalk and water to the ink pad, does the chalk ink act like "chalk" once it's dried? i.e. With a chalk ink pad, once the stamped image is dry, the ink doesn't smear/smudge. With direct to paper application of chalk, I can run my finger over it and smear it several days later... because it's "chalk," no binders in it. I'd like to reink a white chalk ink pad, but don't want to change the "properties" of the chalk ink if a bottle of reinker would be better... does that make sense? :) Thank you for your help!
@thefrugalcrafter

You can add a bit of glycein to the ink to kelp set it but I haven't noticed any smearing with just wet chalk stamping (but I didnt try and rub it off either)

+thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Alycia Ranger also has a second type of Cut and Dry felt to make dye ink pads. I found a box of Stampin Up ink pads and reinkers ( including a box of 12 brand new reinkers but no matching pads) at a rummage sale. There were about 15 ink pads, reinkers & the new box all for $12.00. So I was able to make my own. However I could never figure out what to use for glue so they are just in a little plastic box(1" x 1"). Now I have a way to glue them! Thanks. Marguerite

when you're "grinding" ink sticks you dont actually grind them into the water, you gently rub it or mix it, it shouldn't be very abrasive at all. When doing this it's supposed to be a medatative time to think about what you are about to paint. I realize that you may actually have to grind these pastels in order to make these stamps, but please don't do this to your ink sticks!
