Humblebee & Me haha! i just might! when i first clicked on this video and the first split second you held up and mentioned your book, i was thinking (more like hoping) you were going to tell us "surprise! it coming out early!" lol to be honest, (not trying to sound crazy) you gave me life.lol jk No, but really,i am a stay at home mother and with my husband being gone at work 14 hrs a day, i have nothing but children to keep me entertained and after a bit it gets somewhat boring. Do you recommend using this method for lipgloss recipes with versagel? As in - should i melt my oil blend and mix in pigments(oxides/dyes/micas) and then add the pigmented oil blend into my versagel?

That's not really how you should go about developing a matte liquid lipstick (or any recipe, really)-that's sort of like trying to make a cake by taking a loaf of bread and adding a lot of butter, chocolate and sugar. I would recommend making the lip paint recipe in my book-you won't need any of those ingredients :) www.humblebeeandme.com/make-it-up-preorder/

Daffodil Gems Soap by Miriam All you need to do is get some of the disposable lipstick brush applicators. Take a tube/bottle of your gloss and allow them to squeeze some onto it or dip the clean brush into the container. Very simple. This is how it's done at the makeup stores like Ulta. Hope this helps. I wouldn't recommend it-you'd need to dissolve it in some extra water to incorporate it, and then it wouldn't emulsify in. You'd also have to buffer down the pH (hard without water to dissolve something acidic into) as Geogard Ultra needs a pH of 5 or below to work. It can also cause pH to drift downwards (www.makingskincare.com/preservatives/).

1. I'd say thicker + a bit cushiony, but also slippy. 2. Not terribly long-in line with lip balm/gloss, not liquid lipstick. I would expect to re-apply after eating :) Happy making!

One issue I'm having is with the carmine... is it really made from ground up beetles? Alternately, could I just color with a mica?

Yes, carmine is made from beetles. No, they are not just ground up-there are other processes required to create the cosmetic ingredient we use. If you want to avoid it you can use FD&C red #7 instead in most applications (just not lip stain, as the FD&C dyes are not water soluble). Any mica that is a similar colour to carmine will be coloured with either carmine or an FD&C dye, and will just be less potent as coloured micas are effectively just pigment diluted with shimmer. You saw the same video as me, I think. I decided too to not use mica anymore. It just makes the products not shimmery and that is all. So, not difficult to just leave it out. There is synthetic mica but I saw very few color options for sale. Maybe you have more luck where you live.

If you want something longer wearing I'd recommend a long wear lipstick like the one in my book-the soft, glossy nature of lip gloss makes it the opposite of long-wearing.

I really wouldn't recommend it-hemp seed oil will impact the colour of the final product, has a rather unappetizing grassy taste, and oxidizes quite quickly, which will mean you'll have to throw out the lip gloss well before you're even close to finishing it. You *can* use it instead of the jojoba oil but I really don't think you'll be happy with the end product.

It's not bad for you unless you snort lines of it (inhaling small insoluble particles is always bad-clay would be equally bad for you in this regard), and if you want the shimmer you do have to add it :)
