I just finished making this. I love it. The lather is amazing. Was a nervous wreck while making it but it turned out nice. I used olive oil in place of rice bran oil and powdered walnut husks.

Hey! I don't ever recommend taking something designed for the feet (sturdy!) and using it on the face (delicate!) :) If you are looking for an apricot-y face wash/exfoliant please check out this formulation: www.humblebeeandme.com/apricot-powder-to-foam-facial-cleanser/. Happy making!

Can we omit slsa?
@lauranamkoong3035
@lauranamkoong3035 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I was wondering why you chose to include SLSA. All the foaming bath butter recipes I've come across only use SCI and coca betaine. Does SLSA help thicken the batch? You also mention not to use sugar or salt but there are a bunch of sugar scrubs made with the premade foaming bath butter base. I understand the water content could dissolve the sugar, so how do you think they prevent that from happening? Sorry for the questions! I'm new to formulating with surfactants and have been trying to figure out how to make my own foaming sugar scrubs. Thanks in advance!
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 5 жыл бұрын
SLSa gives more plentiful, fluffy bubbles :) I suppose there would be a point where enough sugar or salt would exceed the ability of the water content to dissolve it, so perhaps that is it? I would worry about the ability to preserve that as well, though-you'd definitely want to be able to run professional stability tests before marketing such a thing :) Hope that helps!

Would it work if I add glycerin to scrubs or will the sugar dissolve in it? Also I saw in one brand that someone added soy lecithin together with glycerin in a body scrub and I wondered if this makes it an emulsified scrub or will it still be oily?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 5 жыл бұрын
I don't believe the sugar will dissolve in the glycerin, but the glycerin could attract water to it out of the atmosphere that could then cause the sugar to dissolve. I highly doubt lecithin would provide enough emulsifying power to make for a clean rinse off, but you'll have to try it to see what you think :)

Is the stearic acid what makes it hold its " whipped form "??
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 5 жыл бұрын
Yup! It's a big part of it, anyways-you could always try making the base without it to see what it's like, and then re-melt to include the SA :)

I hope you can help me. I’ve read your blog and also link to “It’s All in My Hands” post. I can’t find explanation of why SCI/Betaine are mixed/melted first, followed by secondary heat phase, including SLSA. Why is SLSA melted separately? I’d love to learn, if you could direct me to any references. Thank you for your guidance!

@@HumblebeeAndMe oh, I didn’t see that, thank you! So it’s not a formulation thing, it was just because you already had the paste 😁 Now I know I can add the SLSA to the paste when I make this. Thanks for your incredibly quick response 😉

Hi! I just made this but I didn't get the same consistency. Mine is "runny" and creamy vs thick and creamy. The paste you started with combining the two surfactants, I didn't get. Mine was liquidy then I added the other ingredients to it. Is that where I went wrong?

That’ll be a problem, then. You need to melt them together in a water bath to create a very thick paste. This is detailed in the blog post :)

The SCI will not melt under those circumstances. It needs to be pre-melted with the CAPB.

I always link all the ingredients for any given formulation in the blog post, which is linked in the description box below the video (that's one of the many reasons I highly suggest reading the blog post as well as watching the video! If you're not sure what I mean by the "description box", read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/whats-the-description-box-on-youtube/.). Sometimes those links break because they're always off-site links, or sometimes the store I've linked to isn't in your country. That's why I also have a giant page of places to shop all over the world, which you can find here: www.humblebeeandme.com/resources/. It doesn't have every country in the world, but it does contain all the online stores I know about. If your country isn't listed, that's because I don't know about any online stores in your country. You could try looking for a local Facebook group for people who like making soap & other cosmetics-they may be able to recommend places to shop. And for some more discussion on ingredients, I recommend these FAQs: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/why-dont-you-only-use-ingredients-that-are-easily-available-globally/ www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/what-ingredients-should-i-purchase-when-getting-started/ www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/is-there-one-place-i-can-buy-everything/ www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/why-do-you-use-so-many-new-fancy-hard-to-get-ingredients/
