My little coffee grinder is made of plastic, also with plastic lid...First time I pulverized eggshells, I wondered if the plastic gets sort of sandblasted and whether microbits of plastic get consumed in the powder? (I'm making the powder for me to take internally.) I can't find a stainless steel or glass grinder. Maybe it would sand blast stainless steel too? I'm very not tech-savvy with this topic. Any feedback appreciated :)

@exactam07 ай бұрын
That’s because when you place the eggshells in boiling water any poop and other foreign material that’s left on the surface of the eggshells gets dissolved into the boiling water. After boiling, I rinse the eggshells with tap water so that all that crap gets poured down the drain. If you were to put the eggshells directly in the oven without boiling them first, you would effectively be permanently baking all that crap into the surface of the eggshells using high heat. Which is not a good time, especially if you plan on eating those eggshells yourself. I learned this the hard way. I buy my eggs directly from a small local farmer who doesn’t clean the eggshells much before selling them, which is why boiling is so necessary for me. Although I suspect larger commercial farmers tend to bleach their eggs before selling them, so in that case there might be less dirt on them to begin with. Either way I would still boil the eggshells first. Better safe than sorry.

I’ve learned that the powder is best as it is readily available to the plant, specifically good for tomatoes to avoid blossom end rot. If you mix the shells into the soil they will take a while to actually break down and the calcium may not be “available” so to speak, until the following season.
