How to Make Fabric Buttons at Home without a machine (plus professional tips) - great for embroidery

How to make fabric buttons without a machine plus two extra tips to make really professional buttons. From 18th century fabric covered buttons to a modern designer look, the techniques here will help you to get the perfect button for your project without a button machine.
This tutorial will show you how to cover a button mould (aka mold) to make designer buttons - you can embellish these buttons with beads or needlework - or even use a piece of embroidery to make fancy buttons at home.
You won't need any specialist equipment, but you can find many fabric covered button and other button making supplies (such as the Button Template used here) at

nice button! I've seen buttons with a little U shaped metal wire shank run through the little hole and the ends flattened against the top of the mould and then felt and fabric placed over the top and wondered how they made the button. That honestly depends on what you would like. You can just have a single piece of felt the size of the mould, or play with different combinations. It can be difficult to get a smooth edge when the edge is softer, but with practice it can be done to good effect

Hi! Have you seen my Woven Loop Shank video? kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4SrmKqeqaqihtE Although on a different style of button, this is a great way to make a simple shank. You can also sew a closed jump ring onto the back. I'll pop some other ideas onto my To Film list! :)
