Can I use electrolyte from an old car battery if I filter it first? I have been using SMB and it puts out a lot of chlorine and sulphuric gas. I hate that.
@akgoldbear7669
@akgoldbear7669 Жыл бұрын
@@thisoldminewithlars5324 Yes, of course you can use old electrolyte from batteries. In principle, you don’t have to filter it, just pour it into a beaker and put in some steel, some nails. Since the electrolyte is old, you need to heat it well. Boil. When boiling, the water will evaporate and the density of sulfuric acid will increase 🙂 Yes, I understand you, sodium metabisulfite is very, very toxic. I don't like using SMB either. But sometimes I use it.

@akgoldbear7669

Hello. Of course! You should only use a plastic bucket, glass is very easy to break. I only used a glass jar for my video so that you and other people could see how iron sulfate crystallizes and what iron sulfate crystals look like. I never use glass jars, only plastic buckets. Thanks for watching the video, I hope it was helpful :)

Thank you AK for share your knowledge with us. But i curious how you neutralize all those waste acid and dispose them.
@akgoldbear7669
@akgoldbear7669 Жыл бұрын
This takes extra time. But everything is easy. I usually isolate even dissolved copper from solutions. Sometimes I use my copper sulfate for my garden. I don't use much nitric acid. I also use urea to neutralize the remaining nitric acid. After removing all the metals from the solution and after neutralizing the nitric acid, I leave the solution for 15-20 days. After 20 days, the bottom of the bucket will have a sediment and dirt that I collecting in my waste bucket. After that, only a little hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid remains in the solution. Very little. Such a solution will not harm anyone, anywhere. I just flush it down the toilet. Any hardware store sells pipe cleaner drain opener for sinks, all drain openers contain sulfuric acid, this is dangerous! Also they selling muriatic acid for cleaning swimming pools, muriatic acid is a concentrated hydrochloric acid that's really dangerous too. These solutions people use every day and a lot. My acids are not active after processing 🙂

I had some galvanized nails mixed in with my Steel and I understand that will be a contaminant and not the Purity that would be ideal but can I still use it to precipitate Gold from solution or is it ruined?
@akgoldbear7669
@akgoldbear7669 Жыл бұрын
Yes you can. There will be a problem with filtration, filtration will take a long time. When the electrolyte stops working, remove the beaker from the heat, wait five minutes and start filtering. Do not wait for the solution to cool. If the solution is cool, you will not be able to filter the solution due to tin chloride or lead. Good luck 🙂✌

@akgoldbear7669

Hi. I use regular towels for filtering. Before filtering, you must be sure that your sulfuric acid is no longer active. Otherwise, the acid will dissolve the towel. Good luck. 🙂

Not sure if you answer questions or not but here goes. I did what you did all except for the heat, and within two hours I had a large amount of crystals already formed in the beaker . Cotton filtered the solution, no crystals after three days. Question is, is this normal and will it work the same?
@akgoldbear7669
@akgoldbear7669 6 ай бұрын
Hello. The solution must be hot, otherwise ferrous sulfate crystals will form in the beaker along with all the other dirt. While the solution is hot, it needs to be drained onto some kind of filter. For some simple filter. I use a regular towel 🙂

I have a bit of a strange question. What do you think would happen if you made FeSO⁴ from regular crystal oscillators? What would happen to the Ag? Would it convert to Ag²SO⁴? Thanks AK. Great vid, it looks clean.
@colonialcharlie8702
@colonialcharlie8702 Жыл бұрын
Hmm think it would end up in the filter undissolved where all that silica mud was. With any pm cemented (and base metals) that are brought into solution. Since we are pushing until iron is the only in solution. Similar to end stage waste bucket. I did this with crap pins. In my settle-out barren solution bucket. I add some that hasn't been denoxed from cleaning beakers and osmosis filters and was left with pm muds and foils.
@NOFX0890
@NOFX0890 Жыл бұрын
@@colonialcharlie8702 thanks Charlie. If the Ag did go into solution, of which I'm not sure, it would cement back out as metallic silver, right? Maybe incremental H²SO⁴ until the Fe is consumed. Problem I am preempting is if the "shells" are plated Fe, or a stainless alloy. That could complicate things. Fe being so high on the Reactivity Series should (😄) leave the possible plating or alloy metals behind as a mix of cement silver and unknowns mud. Ready for testing. Thanks for your input man. I dont know for certain until I try. Be damned if im decanning them though.
@colonialcharlie8702
@colonialcharlie8702 Жыл бұрын
@NOFX0890 yeah if it's in the filter then could process like it's a contaiminated waste bucket. No reason a mess up can't be restarted earlier in the process. If you don't mind having multiple different stage waste buckets. If you can process those in an effective way and don't care so much about showing yeild, I'm all for it. Good luck!
@akgoldbear7669
@akgoldbear7669 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. Just in case, I want to say that not all crystal oscillators are the same. Many manufacturers use different metals. After dissolving the crystal oscillators, you can get ferrous sulfate or copper sulfate. Silver does not react to these sulfates in any way. After dissolution, it will be difficult to filter the solution. You will need to collect all the sediment, dirt on the filter to get silver 🙂
