Awesome! I suffer from Mc-fillet-o-fish cravings, but I hate going to mc-d's. Cooking is one of my main hobbies, and for years I have been trying to master the fillet-o-fish with better buns, fish, cheese, and tartar sauce to no avail. I just tried your recipe using codfish and panko breading and its the best fish sandwich I have ever had!

I am so happy that you have a child or more? And please forget my advice I gave you in 2012! I said to NEVER get married etc. I was NOT in my right mind! So darn happy yer back and makin' your vids again! YAY! Gotta let ya know, that no matter what you are cookin', your vids brighten up my day. Since the fast food places changed what kind of oil (or whatever it is) they deep fry stuff in, I personally find it all leaves a bad chemical like after taste in my mouth, which is specially noticeable when the food has cooled down from the ride home from the take out window. So thanks for makin' this "knock off" vid Hilah! I can now make my oun fishy things!

Just this weekend I was craving a fish sandwich, my only criteria was not Mickey D.s! Setlled for the red headed pig tailed girl and it wasn't much better. Can't wait to try the home made version and remember for those southerners that are not particularly liken to tarter sauces, coleslaw works great..Also, Ray Crock's answer to the Lent problem was to offer a grilled pineapple sandwich, which he loved. He challenged the franchise owner to a one weekend sell off and the fish sandwich was an overwhelming winner...and history was made! Ray continued to eat grilled pineapple sandwiches for the rest of his life, but they never made it to the menu. I happen to like them myself to this day and maybe you should give one a try!

Only reason we put "capers" on the reg list "ingredients" was because we bought vinager from the cheapest source some times pickle manufacturing other times large caper manufacturing firms. We only wanted the left over vinager at 25 cents a gallon. That's that.

Hey Stupid this is the real history of Filet-O-Fish: The sandwich was invented in 1962 by Lou Groen, a McDonald's franchise owner in Cincinnati; his store was in a predominantly Roman Catholic neighborhood, which led to falling hamburger sales on Fridays resulting from the Roman Catholic practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays. The sandwich was the first non-hamburger menu item brought in by new McDonald's company owner Ray Kroc. Kroc made a deal with Groen: they would sell two non-meat sandwiches on a Friday, Kroc's own Hula Burger (grilled pineapple with cheese on a cold bun) and the Filet-O-Fish, and whichever sold the most would be added to the permanent menu. The Filet-O-Fish "won hands down" and was added to menus throughout 1963 until reaching nationwide status in 1965.

Love your videos Hilah! Question, though. I know McDonald's steams their buns for the FoF (since I worked there), so for a more "accurate" bun, do you think steaming the bun in a veggie steamer would work well, or would it just get me a soggy mess?
@hilahcooking11 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I read about that and somewhere it was suggested that you would put the whole assembled sandwich into a paper bag, fold over the top and then microwave the whole thing to get the bun to "meld" with the other stuff. I thought about using a steamer, but it just seemed like more hassle than it was worth. I don't _think_ they would disintegrate as long as they are well above the water...
@insayndevilchild11 жыл бұрын
Yum! I hate how they skimp on the cheese, too. I'd also take the opportunity to add in some extra flavors, like garlic powder, chili powder and whatnot to the coating. Maybe even siriacha to the tartar sauce. And I'd melt the cheese a bit. And I don't know about you, but adding fries to my fish sandwich is always a must.
