This whipped tallow body butter is light, luxurious, & absolutely lovely.
Beef tallow is loaded with fat-soluble vitamins that are nutritious for your skin and full of fats that make an ideal moisturizer.
We're making this whipped tallow body butter today from raw chunks of beef tallow fat that I had stored in our freezer and pantry (which is typically much cheaper than buying already rendered, grass-fed beef tallow from a store).
If you already have some rendered beef tallow in a jar ready to go, this recipe is even simpler for you!
To render raw beef tallow fat from scratch, we need to apply heat to it and bring it to a liquid state. From there, it's as simple as straining it, mixing in a liquid oil ((like olive oil) and letting it solidify.
The ratio of olive should be 1/4 parts olive oil (or another liquid oil like Jojoba) to 1 part liquid beef tallow oil.
It solidifies pretty quickly (in about an hour if you put it straight into the fridge).
If you'd like a scented whipped balm, add your essential oils or extracts now. For this whipped tallow balm, I made an Almond & Vanilla scented moisturizer using 1 tablespoon organic vanilla extract and 1.25 tablespoons organic Almond extract with 1/4 teaspoon bitter almond oil.
This whipped, light tallow balm can make a beautiful DIY homestead gift for your family and friends, too! We go over tips & tricks on presentation and what I wish I would have done differently in this arena too.
