How to Make Tallow Body Butter, also known as a whipped tallow balm, that you can use on your skin and hair.
Get the full recipe and instructions here: thethingswellmake.com/tallow-...
Use it to nourish and soften dry skin.
It can also be used to cleanse your skin by rubbing it into your skin and then removing with a warm, damp cloth.
I like to rub it between my hands and then glide it over my hair to add shine and define my waves.

when the tallow balm is melted, just put in the fridge and whip again. It works perfectly for me.

Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I'm so glad I found you, keep up the great work. Any suggestions on where I can buy beef tallow? :)

Not sure this will help. At the Local butcher ask for beef Suet( fat around the kidneys). Rich with nutrients. Then you will have to render it down. Many online videos and methods. Then make the Tallow balm.

How about coconut oil? If so, should I melt it first?

My tallow purchased through a soap making supply company is not as hard at room temperature, it's more like a tub of soft butter, and more of a creamy yellow than white. Is this the right product? The whipped tallow finished product feels greasy.

It's the Taurus bapi 1200 rocket complet. I bought it here in Spain so I don't know if it's a European thing or can be found all over. I really like it, though!

My tallow seems more grainy to start with, can I still follow the steps from this video? Or would you recommend me to melt the tallow?
@Thethingswellmake
@Thethingswellmake 10 ай бұрын
It's hard to knwo for sure. Graininess can be camouflaged by whipping up the balm, but it might not be enough to completely remove it. The best way to keep it from being grainy is to melt and cool quickly (in the fridge or freezer). Either route is easy, so if you really don't want to melt it down, you could try whipping it up and seeing if you're happy with the result. If not, you could melt it and cool it quickly before whipping it again. (No need to clean the beater in between.)

Thank you very much for this :) I might have missed it but how much oil do you use?
@Thethingswellmake
@Thethingswellmake Жыл бұрын
It generally depends on the weather. If it's hot out, sometimes I don't use any. In cooler temps, I use around.1 part oil to 3-4 parts tallow.

Thanks for sharing! How long did you whip your tallow for before it got that fluffy?!
@Thethingswellmake
@Thethingswellmake 2 ай бұрын
It doesn't take very long at all- maybe a minute? (Probably even less. I've never really looked, but it's very quick.) It will take a bit longer if your tallow is very hard and cold vs. a warmer room temperature.

what do you think about adding some clean bees wax with the tallow?
@Thethingswellmake
@Thethingswellmake 5 ай бұрын
It is fine to add, but it really depends on what you want the final product to be like. Beeswax will harden the tallow balm and make it slightly less prone to melting. It may be a good addition for people who live in warm climates and find their balm too soft. On the other hand, tallow can be quite hard already, depending on where you have sourced it. Adding the oil to the balm is to soften it and make it smoother to apply. Beeswax will have the opposite effect, and it may make it difficult to apply. If you do want to try adding it, I'd suggest starting with a very small amount to ensure that it doesn't get too hard.

I have bought in in the past, but generally make my own lately now that I've been able to find beef fat more easily. Here's how I do it: thethingswellmake.com/how-to-make-beef-tallow/ (The video is also embedded in the post if you prefer watching videos.)

Can this be applied to your face? Will it clog pores?
@Thethingswellmake
@Thethingswellmake 4 ай бұрын
I've been using it on my face without issues (and I have always had issues with acne). Make sure to whip it with an oil that you tolerate and that doesn't clog your skin- if you choose to whip it with an oil. I'm considering trying with castor oil in my next batch as it supposedly is great for acne. It may make it feel a bit stickier, but I want to give it a try. It will depend on each person, of course, but I like to use it at night on my hands, feet, and face.

Sunflower oil IS toxic. Refer to the work of Chris Knobbe. I think he has info on KZbin, but he’s also been on many reputable podcasts.

I no longer buy sunflower oil. (It's very popular here in Spain. Most people regularly buy olive oil and sunflower oil.) I avoid all seed oils- and actually haven't been buying any oils for a long time now. I have sunflower oil from before, though, and have been using it in soaps and skincare to use it up. It's supposed to be a good oil for skin, but I'm going to guess that the way it's extracted would make a huge difference in the possible toxicity of it. When I get a chance, I'll look into it out of curiosity. I'm very against using it in food, but didn't really think there would be a problem in skincare.
@katehopkins-searle659

@@Thethingswellmake Thanks for your reply. I apologise I didn't realise that you knew the toxicity of ingesting seed oils already. My concern would be that we know we can take in things via the skin directly to the blood supply (eg HRT & nicotine patches etc) so might this also be the case for seed oils? Also, there's a Dr Berg video where he talks about this ie avoiding skin products with unwanted chemicals and mentions seed oils as possible toxic substances in skin products.
