@tean tan...thanks. That is a tough one, learning how to rub the flour batter on the pan ie the traditional method. It's fun though. Quite enjoy making it. Cheers, Victor

@@foodtripwithvictor I saw someone(a professional doing it full time) at the Penang Chowrasta Market, it seems to look so easy but I don't think so. I think you will a better job than me.
@foodtripwithvictor3 жыл бұрын
@tean tan..I know which shop you are talking about. They have been doing it for 3 generations. And, I have done it only twice so far on this video. First try was a failure..which I have to admit. It was too thick. The second time is better once you get the hang of rubbing the batter on the pan. Definitely, I need more practice. Cheers, Victor

So refreshing to find Penang popiah that looks like what my Mom used to make. I love Penang fresh popiah! There is nothing like its unique and delicious flavours from each yummy bite. Ho chiak! I can't wait to try your recipe out, although it is very difficult to find good jicana here in Tennessee.
@foodtripwithvictor Жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your comment. It’s wonderful to know we haven’t forgotten our Penang popiah outside of Malaysia. I do agree it’s not easy to find jicama in western countries unless we live in a big city with a large Asian community. I’m wondering perhaps a Chinese daikon can be a possible substitute instead. But less sweet and less water content. It may be worth a try since it’s easier to find than jicama and probably cheaper. Cheers, Victor

Such a joy to watch your show. Every bit exquisite. These recipes will continue for generations to come. My kids were born in Canada and they have naturally acquired a taste for Malaysian foods. Your contribution of recipes through KZbin is definitely a plus for anyone (like myself) who wants to try to make their own childhood favorites. Thank you so much!

Makes me salivate as I watch! Looks better than the one in Padang. Yummy. I shall try it myself soon. Thank you once again.
@foodtripwithvictor3 жыл бұрын
@Edmond Edmond...Wah..thank you, thank you..the Padang one was really good in the past but somehow isn’t as good since it becomes very touristy. Let’s hope my mother’s recipe works for you. Add more bankuang if you can. Because, when I make it again, I’ll add more bankuang. It’s quite expensive to buy here in Melbourne. Cheers, Victor

Thank you for your video. Just found your video today. Saw you making popiah skin earlier and now the whole process of making the fillings. Greetings from Penang, Malaysia. I can still get this from Paya Terubong Air Itam coffee shop but very costly. God bless.

You are welcome @Anne Wong…thanks for watching my video contents. I guess it is a bit pricey now because it is time consuming to make the fillings especially making lots to sell. Glad we are still able to find stalls selling them. I love popiah and eat it everyday 😋🤣 Cheers, Victor

I vaguely remember that the one in Genting Kopitiam also has omellette strips in it.... that one was really good as well! Not sure if they're still there.
@foodtripwithvictor3 жыл бұрын
Oh yes Genting kopitiam at Island Glades…the popiah is nice..it is still there when I went there the last time before COVID in Dec 2019. I hope the stall is still there too. Very difficult time for the stall owners there .
