Hi Mallory, I appreciate your advice. I've always had indigenous friends. I come from a very diverse background and grew up in an area of BC that were very appreciative indigenous peoples. The Honourable Murray Sinclair, chair of the Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission, said that reconciliation is not an act of forgiving past wrongs. It is a process of dismantling the ongoing colonial relationship that treats Indigenous people as less than human. It is not a matter of benevolence or charity. It is a matter of respect and rights.

Oki Malory - Nice presentation. I have had varying experiences regarding freindships with the indigenous relatives of my own in both the US and Canada. I have always considered myself as an Ally all the time. You all are my People! Yet making friends has been a more difficult experience. I have found in the US people are not trusting at all and look at you as if you have horns sticking out of your head. Yet going to the reserve were I hailed from in Canada, the first time there I pulled up behind the Peoples Center and there was a fellow there raking the grass. I was a bit confused as to what to do. The guy came over and asked if he could help and I said yes I'm not sure what I am doing here. I told him of looking for my ancestors here. He said well lets go over to my house, have some coffee and I'll tell you what your doing here and we'll see if we can find your family. Complete turn around from what I experienced in the US. We went to Tribal - 7 days which was interesting that was being held there the same time I was there. Very profound experience. All I can say is friends are where you find them and value the expereince.

Mallory , Chi miigwetch for all that you do to further reconciliation. This video is to the point and helpful as usual. I approach indigenous affairs primarily as an ally as I am acquainted with one nini from Georgina Island who taught my children in public school. If a friendship occurs as an outcome of being an ally then that is good. I don’t wish to write a book here so I invite you to ask questions.

I don't know exactly where to look. I have heritage of at least a few different tribes. I am looking to connect with people of the same tribes. I know for sure I have ojibwe, Cherokee and Slovakian heritage.

I'm from Finland and I've never visited on that side of the pond in this life, but there is something very relatable about many indigenous people from there. The philosophies in life, connection with nature and especially the sense of humor. I'm conscious about my own cultural background and don't feel a need to become someone else. They just seem like the kind of people I'd wanna hang out with and the more I learn the more I get that vibe. As a Finn I get more culture shock from non-indigenous American culture tbh. And of course I gotta admit there is still a lot I don't know about the diversity of the various communities. I'm not an activist type of guy who goes marching on the streets, but I support decolonization everywhere including the society I live in. My activism is mainly through music. Would be glad to find indigenous friends online or irl when I get the chance to travel there some day. Thanks for the video!

Hi Mallory, I just watched the video. Should have what? I'm sorry I didn't watch it when I first got it. I hadn't paid attention to my email. My internet was down. I just had it back up. I found myself to be. I'm come from an Irish background and my parents. My father was a very racist and I would. I refuse to be racist in my life. I have no. I bothered me a lot if people are racist. I have a black son. I have native son of a native daughter. I have an Italian daughter and I have an Irish son. No, that's their father's background. So my life was putting together fast The different cultures were almost forced on and I had to learn about them as so I could teach my children. What their culture was and so I just don't relate with indigenous. I relate with Italian, Irish native and black America comedian African African Canadian or Jamaican. If somebody as a comment that is racist towards my friends or my family I feel it. I can attack on myself like it's an attack on myself so I really don't have a problem relating with different cultures. So I guess it's times I am an ally with friends of the come to my son's or my daughter's are become part of my children's lives and I can be their mom and their teacher and come try to show them the one multicultural family is. It's almost like I my family is like that book of. I don't know it's called but it was a mother who had 14 mother and father who had 14 children that they had adopted and they were all different nationalities so they had quite the multicultural family. Maybe that is what happened with me and I unconsciously wanted to have that family because my father was so racist. I almost became more. Show him that other cultures are just are the same as us. There's no different but their blood is in different. Your blood isn't different than mine. And you you suffered many things that I haven't suffered. Whereas I

I am a Deaf and Legally blind Osage living in Richmond Hill. It’s harder for e to find friends or a group member for me to learn in Canada. I learned that ere s some Osage tribes had moved to Canada in about 1800 . I wonder is other members th tribes still if in Canada or had return to USA?

I'd like to learn more about my grandmothers culture (Anigiduwagi people) I remember some rituals and ceremonies from my childhood. but children don't pay attention like they should. Now the seasons has changes and she is no more and I feel drawn to the what she called the old ways. You video was very helpful. I would love to talk to first nation people from the Anigiduwagi Nation. Sadly though there is none in the town I'm living in.

Hi Mallory, I just finished watching this video and found it to be very insightful and valuable. I am embarking on a journey to help non-indigenous people like myself begin a chapter of learning about Truth and Reconciliation and bringing attention to Indigenous authors, artists, healers and entrepreneurs. I have a deep desire to learn about Indigenous Peoples and the challenges that they have had to face and still continue to face to this day. I want to continue learning and gaining knowledge and have people learn right along with me. I consider myself to be a white person with an Indigenous heart ❤️
