The helmet was primarily used by mounted knights for tournaments rather than on the battlefield
I live in Ukraine. Surely you know that the war has come to us. I'm lucky. I am relatively safe and I have both electricity and the Internet. So I can make videos. Our entire knight movement is now actively opposing rascism. Someone from the first days of the war is already in the military, someone is engaged in volunteering to cover the needs of the military or civilians in trouble.
With my creativity, I plan to collect donations to help my friends. Many I know personally. Therefore, I leave my details for those who wish to help.

This video was such a joy to watch. I absolutely adore frog mouth helms even if they're not battle practical. The fact that they're basically just a steel shell of pure protection is something I love.

These helmets were used exclusively in tournaments to reduce the possibility of head injuries, and are unsuitable for this type of armor - the Maxmilian.

@@spike1670 In close combat, you need to have an overview of your surroundings and know what your opponent is doing. If you take this helmet, you will immediately find that you can hardly see anything, you have no ability to turn your head and you become an easy target for the light wearer.

True modern craftmanship. He used a lot of non medieval tools. The blacksmiths and armorers back in the Middle Ages were real artists with the tools they had. A lot of that knowledge of the past is lost today.

Wearing this armor is kinda the same way as wearing the 1989 Batman suit Keaton wore. Agincourt, Crécy did show being an armored rider was dangerous especially when you had to come off the horse and fight on foot against Archers with bodkin arrows on muddy ground. In a fight Mano a Mano the Miséricorde dagger was very dangerous for the armored knights because of their gaps in their armor which gave away attack surface.

This version of the frog mouth helmet is built solely for the tournament/joust as it rests on the cuirass and locks the head and neck in place. This is to prevent the head, neck and spine from being rocked from a Either a hard lance shot or from falling off a horse.

There are prow shaped helms used in war, the issue is the attachment, where you simply cannot take it off by yourself. The design is also meant to suspend the head inside with straps. Hence the helmet is rather big. Originals are up to 11 mm plate and in the rolls at the eyeslot 12-14mm thick. Hence they are rather heavy, with 10 kg not being unheard of. So the vison is limited, it makes you top heavy and it is extremely impractical on campagne.

More of zhe hammering and a coal fire, just takes way more time. Although the plates were made from billets with waterpowered drop hammers, so they already came with a taper, so the face would already graduate from ca 11 mm in the thickest point to 3 mm at the edges of the plate. Using multiple men with hammers helps be efficient with heats

this is not a combat helmet, but a sporting equipment. Frog-mouths were designed specifically to provide maximum protection to participants of a jousting tournaments and any additional hole would weaken the visor on become possible avenue for lance splinters to hit the face.
@notfeedynotlazy
@notfeedynotlazy 2 жыл бұрын
It needs no visor holes. You can perfectly see forward when you are leaning forward on your horse as you make your jousting pass. It also needs no breath holes. You can oerfectly breathe as you sit inmobile on your horse, letting him do the running. But the kind of holes it certainly does need the LEAST, are holes for spear points or shaft splinters to enter through and ruin your jousting day!
