He needed a wisk!!! And he didn’t even cook them long enough. My Mamaw never cooked grits that fast. Even when the box said “instant” on it, she still cooked them for like 15 - 20 mins. And that’s all the butter he used??? Again my Mamaw cooked them with butter. And then at the end she would throw in the cheese. I bet his grits were all grainy and like eating dirt.

Grits are a Southern favorite. This creamy corn dish is similar to cream of wheat or polenta and can be prepared either sweet or savory. Using instant grits bought at the store will speed up the cooking process and make this dish a quick standby that can be ready on the spot. Prepare the grits as directed by the packaging on the stove top. Once the grits are ready, add in shredded cheese - preferably cheddar. Gradually stir the grits and cheese until they are fully combined and melted and serve warm. In this video, Chef Mark provides an online cooking lesson for creamy, down-home grits and cheese. Get the recipe: learntocook.com/corn/how-to-make-grits/

1. Do NOT listen to the guy in this video! 2. NEVER use instant grits. 3. Put grits in COLD liquid, THEN bring to a boil. 4. Use a whisk, not a spoon. 5. Use 1/2 water & 1/2 milk (or 1/2 chicken stock & 1/2 milk for savory)

If you want to cut down on the clumping, stir the grits with a fork or wire whisk. Those help break up the lumps and give the grits a smoother consistency. But those look fantastic, actually. I just need a fried egg, with black pepper, and some bacon and that's dinner! (What? You can eat grits at any time of the day. They are awesome!)
