I miss my Haitian mother in laws cooking. She lives between Miami and Haiti and we live in California so I don’t have access to a lot of the ingredients. You made the sos pwa just like Hers. BeanTown Pretty93 ... yes, you can purchase the pure coconut from Walmart, it is usually next to the Jamaican items. I cooked beans about 1 1/2 hour on low heat until they were very soft.

I strained the ones I blended to remove the residue from the beans. I remove the residue because I want the final product to have a smooth consistency. I didn’t strain the the other batch of cooked beans because they were whole.

You can soak beans or just cook them, it doesn't affect the outcome One Way nor another. I don't cook with measurementa, I eyeball everything.

Looks great however too much oil & salt because pure coconut butter is oil and the chicken boullion Maggie has salt. Always be mindful that seasoning has a lot of salt be careful due to high blood pressure.

What is destroying the protein, fiber iron, and vitamins are boiling the beans. Straining it doesn’t cause you to lose the nutrients. Straining it is optional! I strain it for a smoother consistency!!

You said it all "nice & simple ". Too much seasonings in the black bean sauce defeats the purpose. This recipe is simple and authentic and so you get the full flavor of the bean since it's not being overpowered by too much seasoning. This is what makes sos pwa so special...otherwise, what's the point?
