Melanie, I've been trying to learn HRT's for over a week now and so many of the tutorials are difficult to follow. That is until I found yours, hallelujah!!! I am a youtube quilter and am going to give your video a shout out in my post this tomorrow. I will also link it in my video description box. Thank you for such a clear, easy explanation! I made a quilt almost exactly that pattern with the stars and squares with "galaxy" fabrics 16 years ago for my granddaughter. Now she's 16 and wants another one like it to fit her twin bed. . The instructions I have for making the half triangles are as confusing now as they were years ago but your video gave me some clarity. Thanks!

all other HRT videos I've watched indicate that when the HRT is cut to the size you need, that the colored fabric will be offset by about 1/8 th inch from. the corner. I noticed you didn't have this. Are there different times you'd want your points to be "points" in the unfinished block, and other times when it needs to be cut directly so that the two opposite corners' fabric are at a point?

They do end up as "points". I go into a lot of detail about that in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZOWi4VogZmtrpI

Thanks for the video. How much larger do you typically have to make your rectangles compared to the finished size? I make my own patterns and was hoping to try this method. Tried to do a rectangle like a square and it was.... a funny experience. Thanks!

Does your paper template include seem allowances for sewing the HRT to the project?
@SouthernCharmQuilts3 жыл бұрын
You'll make your own paper template, but yes, it's the size you need to trim to. :)

Will this method work will any size HRT?
@SouthernCharmQuilts4 жыл бұрын
You can just adjust the size of the starting rectangles and the paper template and make any size you want. :)

Use freezer paper for your cutting guide. No pins and can be reused. Thank you for your demo Melanie.
