I was 21 years old, military, single but dating my soon to be wife at the time, and had a brand new VTX1300R, brand new Jeep Wrangler and a boat. I got married at 22 and sold the Wrangler for a family oriented SUV (still have it to this day, 2003 Durango 4x4 with a V8... 13 years later lol). I stopped riding when I was 23 due to my new wife laying us down in a Walmart parking lot as she decided to lean the wrong way when I was slowly cornering and found out at the hospital she was 3 weeks preggo. That changed my world! So excited but wouldnt let her ride with me anymore and I rarely went anywhere alone unless it was work with a ruck sac on my back. After my kid came along, I rarely got free time to ride and stopped riding altogether. I sold the bike when he is 3 y/o, still 600 miles on it :/ I found her cheating and draining my account when my son was 5. So while I was with her I sold my nice new Wrangler (bought an old one for a grand and built it up and then had to sell it to pay the attorney), sold my bike, sold my boat to pay her collections debt, and had to make a deal to sign the Durango over to her (she gave it back years later). I then totaled my last remaining car (Infiniti G35) due to an inattentive woman speeding around a blind curve and t-boning me. I found myself at 30 years old, no bike, no vehicle, sharing a 5 bedroom house with my growing son that I kept in the divorce but damn it felt lonely at times, and luckily still had full custody of my son and a good career. I had blessings despite a crazy 10 years. I was broke at the time of the accident from paying the cards she maxed out and didn’t pay, and broke from hiring a money hungry female attorney rep me (glad I did though). So I was on top of the world at 21, let it go for my family, was used and told my wife to get out, entered 100% single parenthood with nothing but an empty house and my awesome mini me. Within a couple years of the divorce, I bought my old Jeep back from a chick that demolished it with neglect. It was fully restored and modded when I sold it :( I then got my beloved Durango signed back over as my ex wife found a man to buy her an overly expensive Wrangler he couldn’t afford. Last year I ended a toxic relationship and my son and I bought his dream car (for when he gets older), a brand new Challenger R/T in F8 green and black suede. Kinda put the empire back together and no help from a female. Every girl I dated got a free vehicle from me before making my life hell, I’ll add. Lessons learned. I never bought another bike, but if it weren’t for my son and my importance you stay alive for him, there would be nothing from stopping me being the perfect bachelor in the leather riders jacket with a nice cruiser. Moral of the story, don’t let anyone destroy your life because hard working men are equals and don’t deserve to be broken down and stripped of all their prideful toys. And, of course, kids are priority. You can always get stuff back if you’re a hard working person and rebuild your empire. I’m now with a woman who has her own money and a nicer house than my own (what what?!). It’s complicated (young widow still recovering), but she’s the best I ever had and we have fun. Son and I downsized to a smaller house that echoes less and is filled with love and happiness (guns, deer mounts and nerf lol). I’m relieved that 6 years ago I decided to file for a divorce and get on with my life. Now I’m mid-30s and have no regrets, not like what I was feeling a few years ago! Truly independent. I always thought I was as I was always in every relationship the soul provider, but also the most used and abused. I realized I was dependent on love which isn’t real for 7/8 women... No hopes of having more kids (sucks because I wanted 5). But life is pretty good. Just have to figure out the most complicated and delicate relationship thing I’ve ever been in.
