I use an infrared gauge but I always scoop out of the middle to expose the deep fresh soap where it is the hottest. That is also where your thermometers are reading and getting that high temp. If you use the infrared on top you will get the cooler soaps temp.

You have to stir into the soap to get an inside reading with the gun temp. You are just getting the top edge of the soap. The gun is very accurate.

+ThisIsItFinally its better to use a candy thermometer i think. no fuss no muss and you know exactly what temp the soap is.

I had a thought about your digital thermometer readings off. I just feel like the inserted thermometer actually go down into the soap where the heat is being generated whereas at the top would be cooler. just a thought

You have to pht a - between the 2 names just a Fyi im going to give you a follow and im a soap maker to but new to hot processing just made my 1st couple of batches my 1st one was a total flop 😅😅😅😅 it rose & over flowed all over my counter tops I was so mad & upset it never got to the gel phase I stayed up all night long and it just kept rising to the point where it wanted to over flow again and again , it finally thinken enough to mold so , I put it in the molds it took 3 days to set but the next batch didnt do that , so I dont know what happened

im really hoping you raised the temperature and not lowered since you wanted it warmer lol. I noticed if you have your refrigerator full then it tends to stay cooler also saves on electricity too.

+Sara Gronholm its the shop freg so its just used for lye and a few drinks and such. so it stays empty most of the time. have lots of goats milk in the freezer but i bet that does not help. that may be why we are having this issue now. empty freg

+EssentialSoap I would love a video on how you use up your scraps from soaps and crockpots. im about to start to learn cp and hp soaping. Ive been dealing with melt and pour for a while now and just wanting to grow but im noticed alot of scraps in hp.

+Sara Gronholm i melt them down with 1/4 cup of water in a crock pot full to mounding over. heat on low for 6 to 9 hours and then mold. you can also add eo or fo and you can add the scrapes to batches of soap to make the batch larger and the chunks are fun.

Hello mentor Kim I am making some hot process soap and I believe I recall you saying that we should put the essential oils in at a temperature around 140 degrees. Did I hear you correctly or does anyone else know the ideal temperature. Thanks

Harold, you have to check the flash point of the oils you are using. Some can be added up to 160 or more degrees without them burning out. Others (particuarly a lot of floral oils or citrus ones) have flashpoints as low as around 110. When I have those oils, I honestly just try to cool the soap down as much as possible without it hardening. But I have take to doing fluid hot process soaps, so the batter is very liquid and pourable even at low temps..

+Kathy Peterson +it does keep longer if you do and i like that i can put the soap to cooking and not get over flows. before i always had one here and there that would explode on the table. this way i just use room temp oils and cold lye and i never have issue but now this ice issue so its not perfect lol
