That's an awesome effect! I've been doing my Tyranids in an artic theme and have been wanting to level up the basing with them.

I bought that space marine battle box a bit ago, wanted you to know that you helped to inspire me to go ahead and pull the trigger on making them the sons of the Russ. I’ve always loved their lore and model range but have always been a shopper, to see what army I want. Thanks man. Your army is looking great too by the way. Keep up making all the great content.

I make bases like that only with white rims. I like the blue with white dry brush better. I will try that way, I like the look you did.

I usually do forest or swamp bases but I have found that baking soda works great for ice effects, as well as being a great filler for cracks and making instant bonds between even the most problematic of pieces while building.
@tabletopskirmishgames

I've used it with super glue before and makes a solid cement. What glue do you use with it for your bases?
@josephskiles
@josephskiles 2 жыл бұрын
@@tabletopskirmishgames I do for ice like effects, but your method is a lot better! Baking soda like you said makes almost a cement when combined with superglue almost instantly so it doesn't let you have anywhere close to the control your method provides.

I've viewed a lot of approaches to winter bases but this looks the most practical and cost effective. Do you scrape the areas clear when mounting the model afterwards or use pins? Good job.
@tabletopskirmishgames
@tabletopskirmishgames 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, for the Space Marines I scrape away a bit of the base to make it flat. For the wolves I went right down to the plastic for a good bond. I'll be uploading a video for this soon. Thanks for watching!

D’you reckon the effect would be similar using brown instead of blue for a more eastern front theme?
@tabletopskirmishgames
@tabletopskirmishgames Жыл бұрын
I think that would work. You can get brown pastes that might save you having to paint them too. Vallejo Thick Mud is brilliant and it has bits of texture in it that would be perfect for the eastern front theme.

Great video! Just a question- how do you paint your mini if you are painting the base separate? Do you use some pva glue to temporarily stick it to a spare base when painting? Thanks!
@tabletopskirmishgames
@tabletopskirmishgames 2 жыл бұрын
I superglue them onto a bottle lid. Super glue allows you to snap off the mini smoothly so you don't damage it.

If you do the bases before, what’s the best way to attach the minis? Superglue? I plan on using this recipe for my votann
@tabletopskirmishgames
@tabletopskirmishgames Жыл бұрын
Superglue is the way to go. Some brands leave a white chalky residue, which isn't a huge problem on white bases like this but be careful on other style bases. I like to use Loctite SuperGlue as it doesn't leave any residue.

how do you keep the agtrllan earth from flaking off?
@tabletopskirmishgames
@tabletopskirmishgames 11 ай бұрын
I didn't have any problems with it for these. It has happened on one or two other projects a bit but I found when painted they were fine. You could add some watered down PVA and let that set to be super safe.

How do I stop the agrellan earth from falling off once it's dried? It just drops off in big chunks when i upend the model, and then even lightly drawing a brush across strips the rest...
@tabletopskirmishgames
@tabletopskirmishgames 2 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't be doing that, it's designed to go onto the bases and be painted over. Every time I've used agrellan earth it's worked fine, so I don't know what to say. I've looked online and lots of people say to make sure you prime first and even to seal after with a paint. I guess the spray I used helped to seal it in.

I've tried this method, but I feel like the talassar blue is much darker than in your video. Rather than icy light blue, it looks like deep dark blue. What might be causing it?
@tabletopskirmishgames
@tabletopskirmishgames Жыл бұрын
Did you mix 3 parts contrast medium to 1 part Talassar blue?
@kolosmenus
@kolosmenus Жыл бұрын
@@tabletopskirmishgames Yes, though I just measured it by depositing a full brush onto a palette, rather than some pipette. Thinning it with contrast medium doesn't seem to change the color much though. Could be also due to the way I texture the base or drybrush. Drybrushing white doesn't seem to reach most of the recesses, so most of the base remains blue. I also use Vallejo grey sand rather than the pumice.
