I have made slotted adapters for my car's pinch weld jacking points with hockey pucks. It is good to see someone showing that any type can be made. If you have already spent a lot of money on a Mercedes or BMW there is no reason to spend $25 online for an adapter you can make with a $2 hockey puck.
@DoingWhatever7 жыл бұрын
Right on! I think regardless of the car you drive, an adapter for $25 is a bit high. Thanks for watching!

Did the same thing for my CLA, ended up cutting one puck and bolting it to another puck b/c its jack point is deeper. Took a look at my 328 and saw that so far nobody has used adapters on it...those jack points are pretty damaged. - solid video!

I recently bought a low profile 3 ton jack @ Harbor freight & I bought a Hockey puck to place in the cradle works great & when I put the cradle just under the una body frame almost to the front of it when I raise the car literally lifts the whole one side of my corolla which my older 2 ton jack never did, as for lifting the front end up I just use the scissor jack on one side in the notches & floor jack on the other side it all works out great..

Hi Friend I'm from Poland and watched your method. It's great. Just I buoght 2 hockey pucks and will be prepare jack adapter. But I have additional ask to you. Could you take a photo or video where do you put floor jack if you lift up whole back the car 5:46. I can't find this info (photo, video) and I afraid that I can broke suspension or differential.
@DoingWhatever6 жыл бұрын
I placed it under the differential but if you aren't comfortable doing that, please don't. I would stick to using the two jack points on the sides that were designed to lift the car. Thanks for watching from Poland!
@curtmcd6 жыл бұрын
There is a heavy steel rail about a foot further in and a foot further back. That's where you put the 3 ton jack so that you have room to put the jack stands with the pucks under the jack points. Both wheels come off the ground. Don't lift the car any higher than necessary to get the jack stands underneath, because these floor jacks are bad for lowering cars -- they just drop them suddenly!
@jaylmw085 жыл бұрын
never jack from the diff. there should be a jack point on the subframe and another right behind the front wheels that is circular
@bryanjudefernandez21954 жыл бұрын

Hocus Focus Productions Definitely not as stable as on the floor jacks but I have done this a few times and have been successful. Awesome video. See you have air impact wrench. I'm getting started on air tools. What type of air compressor and tools do I need? What do you recommend?
@DoingWhatever6 жыл бұрын
I'm by no means an expert on pneumatic tools and CFMs and all that but I can tell you what has worked for me - I've added the 4 basic things in the video description you'll want/need to get started with using the impact gun specifically. The gun, Air compressor, Air hose, and fittings. The gun is similar to what I have(I have an older I.R.) the compressor is exactly what I have, hose is the same, and the fittings will vary depending on the tool. I've ran an air chisel on this compressor and it keeps up for the most part(the air chisel uses quite a bit of air). As far as what other air tools you might want to pick up - that really depends on what type of work you are planning on doing or what other projects you have in mind. what are you thinking about doing? Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

I'll be working on suspension repair on my Saturn and Camry. I thought about a 1/2 In. Milwaukee cordless impact wrench. Not sure which way to go, yet. Thanks for replying!

I think you’ll like going cordless. There’s a time and a place for air tools but I find that more and more I’m going with the battery powered tools over air tools

Tonight I put the front of my E39 high on jack stands using this technique. Brilliant! First I went to the BMW store to get jack pad adapters, and they said "special order for next Tuesday $30 each". WTF, shouldn't every BMW made in the last 20 years use the same pads so they could stock a few for $10 ea? Next I went to Dick's Sporting Goods, where they didn't have hockey pucks, or much else useful for that matter. Next I went to Big Five, which is a real store and they had my whole shopping list, pucks $7 ea. To cut the pucks I used a vice and a combination of an old hacksaw and a craftsman Vibrating Multi-Tool with toothed cutter. It was not bad at all. The pucks do compress a little once they are holding a ton, but actually it's nice they conform to the surface of the jack stands. Regarding that: my stands have flatter tops. Beware those with deep U-shaped forks at the top... I would not use a puck on those. One problem I immediately ran into is that my 3 ton floor jack would not fit under the car,. I had to use the emergency jack to lift the car high enough to get the big jack under the heavy steel rail. This worked, but it is going to be a hassle when trying to lower the car safely. I'll have to lower the tires onto blocks in order to switch jacks in the middle.
@DoingWhatever6 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed this and were able to make your own! I had to put blocks under my tires as well when lowering it.. I'll have to get a low-pro floor jack. Regarding the stands - I cringe at my video when I see that part lol not a safe stand to use these pucks on, I agree. I've since bought some with flat tops. Really appreciate you taking the time to leave a nice and informative comment! Cheers!

@virtisconsole12 Жыл бұрын
Great design and video, but I’m not sure you need to cut the hockey puck? Why not just use the block of wood to insert into the jack point and once that is inserted flush just center the puck on the floor jack and lift on the flush and level jack point? If you are concerned about having the wood insert staying in the jack point, I think you could screw in a couple wood screws that are countersunk into the wood holding the wood insert to the rubber puck.. I think what matters most is that the jack point is fully filled and the rubber puck will distribute the weight and provide great jack point stability.. it seems that fitting the rubber into the jack point isn’t necessary?

It looks as if the actual jacking heads are supposed to fit all the way up into the rectangular area to take the load inside that zone; making anything shallower like the hockey puck adaptors transfers the load onto the outer box, I don't think is the intent.

I measured the jack point on a bmw I3 and the rectangle on the pad is approx. 1 inch by 2 inches. Hockey puck is 1 inch thick, 3 inch diameter. Cut rectangle 1/2 inches deep. He charges you for the template of the rectangle on his web site, that is why they are never mentioned here.
@DoingWhatever3 жыл бұрын
First of all, I don't charge for the template on my website and never have. The price on it is $0+ (top left) meaning you can download it for free but if you feel so kind as to send a few dollars my way, the software allows you to do so - hence why the title reads "(donations appreciate)" at the end. Secondly, I created the template in order to hopefully save some people a bit of time - instead of measuring out each hockey puck you want to cut and ensuring the rectangle is centered on the hockey puck, simply download the template and print it off. Then, put the template on top of the puck and cut it out, no measuring required. Lastly, if you watch the video, I show myself measuring the jack pad adapters on my BMW, dimensions are approximately 1 5/16" x 2 1/4" x 1/2", I'm not trying to hide anything.

@DoingWhatever8 жыл бұрын
idesigner Well if you make your own jack pad adapters like this, then that just saved you roughly $60. The money you saved could be used to buy a floor jack. A 2 1/2 ton Craftsman floor jack at sears is $60. You don't need two, but it is nice to have a second one.
@plankton1997 жыл бұрын
Also if you do your own tire rotations two jacks makes it so much faster...
@von98337 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this video, but I believe you really only need 2 jack pad adapters. This is based on the assumption to work on only one axle at a time. This being the case, instead of collecting the tools and spending all this time and energy..just buy the manufactured pad adapters. Spend once, cry once! Nice hobby work though...
