Your video is spot on and good info. Thank you for posting. Please, buy some new jack points. They're cheap insurance from any online store, and very easy to replace (1 single flat tip screwdriver to leverage out the clip of the worn out jack point, and it'll just drop out, insert the new one with one hand, pop it into place; done). Also, use a larger floorjack pad, for your floorjack (I have a 3 ton Harbor Freight floorjack). My floorjack pad is rubber lined steel (4in x 4in) and I then use the Burger Motorsport jackpad adaptor, similar to the pinned one you designed. Also buy some flat topped jack stands. The ones you have are meant for solid axle support (that's the point of the cradle). My jackstands are Esco stands and are flat topped. Best!! Steve

Guys and guys just buy 5 hockey Pucks make 4 of them with a with a channel cut out by a dremel tool with a cutting wheel and the 5th one you cut 4 corners out of it (like quarter moons) to fit the little space under modified hockey puck :) $8 for puck and about 1 hour of time.

I thought about it but in today's litigious world, I would be too worried about some moron misusing them.

True. Perhaps share the plans? I modified some of the gray Amazon pucks to fit on top of jack stands and that has worked pretty well.

The jack stand ones aren't resilient against shifting side-to-side and so aren't very safe. If they were just the shape of the jack pad receptacle, but extended lower, then jack stands could hold them up just like they were a fat pinch weld. The jack stands would have to be perpendicular to the direction you have them in the video, as though they were holding up a normal pinch weld. So basically it's just a rubber rectangular prism that goes into the hole and extends down in the same shape. That's a safer design in my opinion, and a fair bit simpler.

Hey man, these are by far the best i've seen and look very well done. Thanks for posting this video. If you could please answer though a couple questions. What material did you build the jack stand pads out of? I cant tell for sure, but it appears that the floor jack pad is of a different material, but i'm more just focused on the pads for the stands. Also, could you share any detail of the process you went through when building these? I understand you're worried about others being unsafe while trying to mimic what you've done, but I also understand that you're just sharing what you have done as a do-it-yourselfer and are in no way advising me/us to do this. Thanks for reading.

The black pad was purchased online on ebay, it is a very hard rubber. The red pieces are prototypes but I made the pieces just recently at a machine shop from steel. Hope that helps.

Hi, I share your point of view : jack pads design are very bad and I made similar modifications to my own jack pads. Anyway I have few comments from 6:50 in your video : - as we see, the jack pad can easily fall on one side. To make it more stable, I think your design should have small plates on the sides going down and helping it to remain in place on the jack stand. Thus, it won't fall easily anymore. - if the circular part of the jack pad touches the jack stand, it is better. In fact, what is the best is having the largest contact interface surface possible, so the car weight (pressure) is distributed on a greater surface which reduces the probability of material failure becasue locally the pressure is reduced.

That's not really the proper way what you doing with the jack stands. Most people buy jack stands with a flat top to them and then place adapter on the flat surface. That has far more stability than what you are showing. Both by my floor jacks have flat pads on them so I can just place the BMW pucks on the jack pad with no worries. Unfortunately, I had to buy all new jack stands because I had your design to begin with. I realized that really would nevet work properly. I also had to buy four of those little BMW pucks. I ended up replacing all of the plastic jack point receptacles underneath my car as well. I'm always doing something with coilovers or rotors or brake pads, so I have decals("JACK HERE") with a little triangle pointing downwards to the exact spot on my rocker panels marking my jack points. That has proved invaluable!!

Failed design. As soon as the car is lifted and at an angle, the load is on a tiny edge or corner of the adaptor. This is asking for trouble.

@@mecheng1977 the puck don't fit on your jack because it wasn't design for that jack. And I don't think they sell those jack anymore. Still tho, good video. I use to own that same jack but those are long gone as they don't go under most of my car. There too short to reach the center jacking points.

Interesting and informative....... thanks. However, wood is compressive and has been used down through the ages for packing and lifting. A wood block cut to the rectangular shape to fit inside the plastic housing would work as it would not move. A support between jack and the wood could be anything soft. Obviously wood just used against the edges of the plastic housing whilst it would work it would risk distorting or breaking the edges of the plastic housing...... I use a number of old socks, (anything just as soft and compressible would do)..........inside a couple of plastic bags.....they compress easily and do not damage the car sill or jacking point.........and, of course, they do not scratch any paint from the sill area around the jacking point. Have lasted for years and I keep them with the jack. You always can find a few old socks somewhere.....! Just a thought that might be useful....
