Hi there love love your video it’s easy and simple from the others I watched. I had a question dose the syrup have to be poured on warm always???? Like after keeping the dessert in the fridge do you have to warm up the syrup and can I warm up the desert to????
@TheBitewithJackie4 жыл бұрын
Hi!! When you make the dessert, one should always be room temp and the other one hot. If you’re reheating it from the fridge, I’d suggest letting the syrup come to room temp and heating up the dessert! That’s what we’ve always done! Thank you for watching! Please let me know if you give it a try and share with me on Instagram (@thebitewithjackie)

Your expression at 12:43 is literally my mood trying out my knafeh for the first time. Thank you so much for the video! This was super helpful. Question: Are you supposed to store the leftovers in the fridge or can you leave it out at room temperature? For how long can you store it?
@TheBitewithJackie5 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!! This is my favorite dessert of all time! I would definitely store the leftovers in the fridge. When you want to reheat, use the oven and not the microwave. The oven will help bring it back to life, but the microwave will change the texture completely

Can I Pyrex trays instead of metal one? Will it still cook good in them?
@TheBitewithJackie4 жыл бұрын
Hi! By Pyrex, do you mean a 9x13 baking dish? You absolutely can, however if you use the same measurements for the dough and cheese, it may end up being a thicker knafeh in which case, you’ll have to adjust the baking time. Or you can even make 2 separate trays! Hope this helps! Please send me a picture on Instagram @thebitewithjackie when you make it!
@zuhairmuakkit504 жыл бұрын
My question is that does the Pyrex material have a different effect on backing compared to a metallic tray. Of course will adjust ingredients to produce same thickness. Sorry that my question wasn't clear .
@TheBitewithJackie4 жыл бұрын
Oh, I see! Great question! It may actually be ready sooner in the glass baking dish. Heat is distributed differently in metal vs glass so just keep an eye on it to see when it turns golden to your liking! The final product should be just as delicious though.

What's the name of sweet cheese?
@TheBitewithJackie2 жыл бұрын
Hi! You can find it in Arabic stores in the freezer or refrigerated section. It usually just says “sweet cheese” but you can also use Nabulsi that has been soaked for a day to remove the excess salt

No orange blossom water?? If you add orange blossom water to the syrup it really changes up the dish and makes it so much better! good video
@TheBitewithJackie4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lewis, thanks for watching! I filmed this video a while ago and really wasn’t into rose water or orange blossom water. I’m starting to come around a bit but I only really like it in very small amounts lol.
@lewisw15504 жыл бұрын
Yes, don’t use lots of orange blossom water it’s meant to be used in only very small quantities

Hello dear, I am planning on making knafeh. I read on the internet that it turns out really good if you use a mix of akkawi and braided Syrian cheese so I bought those. Will knafeh turn out good with these types of cheese?
@TheBitewithJackie4 жыл бұрын
Hi Elena! Thanks for watching! I’ve used ackawi cheese and also Nabulsi cheese for knafeh but never the Syrian cheese. It’s known for that “squeaky” texture but maybe it’s similar to mozzarella? It’s a bit harder though. I would definitely recommend soaking them a few times and letting them sit so the salt is removed. Let me know how it turns out!
@user-hv9wh5vv6p4 жыл бұрын
@@TheBitewithJackie Thank you so much dear for answering my question. I will definitely soak them, I hope it turns out perfectly because knafeh looks AMAZING! I will definitely let you know if I succeeded!❤️

How did it turn out!
@user-hv9wh5vv6p4 жыл бұрын
@@TheBitewithJackie It turned out heavenly! It was really really delicious. I gave some to 2 Syrian friends who live next to me and they told me that it was really tasty, almost as good as the original. The cheeses were really creamy, I liked the combo. They were almost like custard but chewier. I baked it almost 10 days ago and I can't wait to make it again! Thank you for the soaking tip, it really helped with the texture and taste!❤️

What is sweet cheese? Where can we get it from?
@TheBitewithJackie4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Sweet cheese is Nabulsi cheese (A Middle Eastern goats milk cheese) made without salt. Its not really "sweet", it's just called sweet cheese because its not salty and is used in desserts. You can find it in Middle Eastern grocery stores in the frozen section! Tomorrow I'll be posting another variation of this dessert, stay tuned! Thank you for watching!
@nikis80884 жыл бұрын
@@TheBitewithJackie can we use akawi cheese I know its salty but if you soak it in water for a bit that might help. Also can you please show us the traditional Palestinian knafeh
@TheBitewithJackie4 жыл бұрын
Yes you absolutely can! Exactly like you said, you can soak it in water, change the water 2-3 times to remove all the salt and it will work just the same! I'd still recommend adding the mozzarella to achieve the cheese pull if you like that! This is how my family always made knafeh khishneh, but are you referring to knafeh na3meh?
@nikis80884 жыл бұрын
@@TheBitewithJackie okay. To be honest I love to eat n cook lebanese food as my husband is lebanese and we are in Australia. I get alot things here but since i have recently tried the Palestinian knafeh. I want to try to recreate the recipe with the flavour. If you can show then really it will help. And substitute also like if something is not available what can be used.
@TheBitewithJackie4 жыл бұрын
I think the flavor you're mentioning really comes from either the cheese we use (nabulsi cheese mainly but ackawi will work) or also the samneh. We put a spice called hawajet el sameh and I think it makes a huge difference. I have a video for how to make samneh and a link in the description box of that video to where you can find that spice. The company is based in the US in Michigan but I believe they ship worldwide.

What is sweet cheese called ?
@TheBitewithJackie5 жыл бұрын
Its usually just labeled as sweet cheese. You can find it at middle Eastern grocery stores. Traditionally we use a cheese called nabulsi cheese. I’ve done it this way multiple times, but with this one you need to soak it in water for a while to drain out all the salt. Some people also just use ricotta.
