Thanks for posting this. We had cheese in milk with bread and butter for lunch as children in the 60s and loved it. I couldn't find anyone else who remembers it.

Mum used to make it for me as a child when I was poorly, can just taste it now. Like you, could never find anyone who remembered. Would have been in the 60s

Thank you so much!!Used to have this as a kiddie in the 70s. Loved it! Me and my mum were talking & she was saying that she just fancied some but couldn't remember the recipe...nobody remembered it and most who would have, unfortunately are no longer with us! I shall send this to her straightaway!Even though she'll say her dad did it on the hob!!😂😂

Our family made (and I still do) something similar in Manchester, only made in a pan on the hob, but with the addition of bacon, or sausages, and with onion in the mix. Still one of my favourite comfort foods, but now I use veggie sausage or bacon. Another key ingredient is a ton of black pepper, and bread to mop up. It's delicious.

Best veggie sausages to me are the Richmond meat free ones. Yes bet that is really good too your way!

Saw this in the book "The Craftman", a murder mystery by Sharon Bolton. She was raised in Pendle, Lancashire. Here is the quote, it is near the front of the book. "I’ll just give them their tea.’ Nancy carried a metal dish to the table, where four young children sat, and began spooning food onto waiting plates. It was a supper dish I’d seen before in the North-West: an egg for each child, drowned in milk and crumbly local cheese, and then baked until the whole thing set." Served with sliced white bread. Yours is the only real reference I can find, other recipes have beaten eggs, tomatoes, cream, onions or other things and are more like a baked omelette. Very cool to find a unique regional dish. Thank you for the video.

My father was raised in Accrington Lancashire and he always used to make this dish when we were children. I still enjoy it now and then especially in Winter! Can't believe it was featured in a book - many thanks for that and I will put it in the blog.

Mum would have those white Tim plates with the blue rim. Milk, grated cheese and for my Dad she'd ctack an egg on top and grill it although the top of the egg would burn and the egg would still be slimy so no egg for me back then. I'll recreate this for my two but I'll try and mix the egg in.
