Pretty cool! I've thought about making jigheads. Anytime Im fishing a river I lose a bunch of 1/8 oz
@PeelingLine Жыл бұрын
The real advantage of making those smaller jigs is getting the better hooks. If you see Zac down at Burlington again ask to see his jigs. They make their own and they're much better than anything you can buy.

Thanks for the video. I get my lead from the same place. I cannot find the FL200 wire inserts anywhere. Ready to start casting for area 4 rockfish.

Glad it helped. Just make your own inserts with these pliers ($9). It's a lot easier than using the nails on wood. I need to get out there myself. Maybe this weekend. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BJK6HR1X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@@PeelingLineI just am not having in luck making those wire forms. Could be the wire I chose. Anyways I found a source for the FL200 forms if you are looking. It is from a Midwest company that started making their own due to supply issues with Do-It. They charged me $3.95 per 25.

@@PeelingLineHey I am also not always getting complete fills particularly at the top around the wire form. Is it just a learning curve thing or do you have a technique you could share. Should be getting up to Neah Bay in the next few weeks to get them wet.

@@searun1418 I tilt the mold down and then slowly lower the back so it's level when it comes out the hole. Shaking also works. It doesn't matter though the fish will still bite incomplete pours.

@@searun1418 I actually bought these pliers and make the forms while watching tv. It's a lot easier. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BJK6HR1X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

They work well for king salmon as well. I invest more in paint for salmon and heavy fishing pressure where I fish to stand out.
@PeelingLine10 ай бұрын
I will have to try them for salmon this year. Do you rig them butterfly style with the hook on the top for them?
@brendanwoerner335210 ай бұрын
@@PeelingLine I rig them with a split ring, barrel swivel and to a 5/0 mustad open eye siwash hook on the back. I also put a small glow hoochie skirt threaded on barrel swivel.
@PeelingLine10 ай бұрын
@@brendanwoerner3352 I will give that a try. I don't like siwash hooks though. I think the sickle hooks hold the salmon better when you remove the barbs.

@@PeelingLine to each there own. I use mustad for durability and sharpness due to ultrapoint tech they use. Even if they hit a rock the tip won’t roll over like on gamakatsu hooks

That's pretty cool. Those are similar to jigs I use for ice fishing lakers and burbot.

This mold comes in a bunch of sizes. The 2 and 3 oz are perfect for lingcod and rockfish here. I know people use this mold (1/4 oz to 1 oz) for ice fishing. store.do-itmolds.com/Flutter-JigbrSz-14-12-34-1-oz_p_1074.html

That jig mold is one side 2 oz and the other side 3 oz ? I have never used a jig But if I did I sure would make them. I gave my friend all my lead last year he was making Buzz Bombs. Have a great weekend out at the coast get lots of fish.🎣
@PeelingLine Жыл бұрын
Thank-you it was fun out there. I got a bunch of lings, rockfish and cabezon. I'll post a video in a couple days. That's right the mold has the two sizes in it. The jigs work really well in the sound for rockfish but not so much lings for some reason.

Awesome. I think that Lee furnace will pay for itself in no time.. Walmart carries Rustoleum glow spraypaint as well, I use that on my diy stuff, it works pretty well.
@PeelingLine Жыл бұрын
I will have to check that out. I just got this stuff at lowes. The furnace sure will.

We have a Lee pot for other lead uses. Stay with what you have, just get a bigger melting pot and ladle. The Lee is a good tool as designed, but jigs and sinkers are not part of that design. If you do try one, stay standing. I’ve seen people sit down to use them and a malfunction or user error has lead landing in their lap with a very bad outcome. Good clean channel that I can watch with my grandkids, thank you.
@PeelingLine Жыл бұрын
Thank-you. I did get one and I found you have to hold the mold at an angle and then quickly tip it the opposite way right at the end to get a good pour for the 3oz jigs. The only sinkers I have tried are the 1,2,3,4 canon ball sinkers and it worked perfect for those. I am looking to get the 7/9 oz flutter jig mold next.
@AnglingSpiders Жыл бұрын
Looks good, but that is a lot of jigs. Do you lose a lot of them?
@PeelingLine Жыл бұрын
It really depends on the day. I lose at least 2 jigs if I'm fishing rocks. Some days I can lose 10. But on average I'll lose about 5 a trip. Basically this has paid for itself for me after 3 or 4 trips.
