You almost had me but then I saw the other VU meter videos and recognized the schematic. Maaaan. I've been doing my own research and to help you guys go in the right direction - first, make bandpass filters using 2 capacitors and 2 resistors. the output signal of this should be only the signal in the frequency range defined by the capacitors. then amplify that signal or use it to drive a transistor and feed it into the LEDs. There's bandpass filter calculators online. I really hoped this was gonna be a simpler method. Shame
