this is a great explanation. I had instructors who would never explain why you need to go into the middle of an intersection. I never understood that, so thank you.

Depends on state law. Some states require you move into intersection. In those states don't sit behind the crossing lines. You will get honked at

The only thing I want to add. Imagine a situation: The traffic light is green, you want to turn left, there are already cars at the intersection. In this situation, you need to stay and not start moving, waiting until all the cars have cleared the intersection.

If there is no car in front of you... you have to pull forward and then make left according to California law

Thank you for your content. Turning at the left intersection has been my biggest weakness. I noticed at 5:24 you were supposed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian because while you had the green light, they also have the right to cross the street.
@shayduncan62083 жыл бұрын
The pedestrian remained on the sidewalk and did NOT step into the crosswalk. Also, like you stated, he had the light. All of these factors added up into his making the decision not to yield, because there was no one to yield to in that situation.

Thanks for your educative video, but my question is: after moving to the middle of the intersection where do I position the car because you have given two different instructions. Am I to align my front bumper with the yellow line or align my left mirror with the yellow line? It sounds confusing. Thanks

You are one of the few people who knows the correct procedures (according to the way we were taught in Driver Education class). My only suggestion is that you get rid of the inset video of your face. It's not necessary, and it hides the signal lights in some instances.

I was in the middle and the light turned red and I was stuck in the middle and I went to make the left turn but the other car peeped at me. Was I at wrong for going?
@kelseyhastings33573 жыл бұрын
No they were in the wrong, you were right. They have to wait until the intersection is clear AND the light turns green. If the light is green and intersection isn’t clear yet, they can’t go :)
@AimieNeish3 жыл бұрын
Ur supposed to go on yellow
@kelseyhastings33573 жыл бұрын
@@AimieNeish not necessarily because what if the traffic going straight goes on the yellow? Then you could get t-boned. You can go on red if you’re already in the middle of the intersection. And if a car is still in an intersection on green they need to wait until the intersection is clear to go :)
@PierrePaulDrivingSchool3 жыл бұрын
No you are not in the wrong. Sometimes you have to wait for the red light especially in NY traffic. Do not go on a yellow light if you do not feel like the on coming traffic is going to stop. As a driver we should be able to time the cars if you do not feel safe do not go. Let's not assume everyone is going to stop if they get a yellow light. People usually go faster to go through the yellow light. Better to be safe and drive safe . A accident is an unforeseen event also do not let anyone honking behind make a move that will cause you to be in an accident or be pulled over.

I’m from Phoenix, AZ and lived in Denver for a few years, literally everyone stays behind the line while making left turns at lights in Colorado. So many times I would be behind someone, turning left, and the light would turn green, they would stay behind the line and then turn yellow and they wouldn’t go. Would drive me crazy. Seriously was starting to think it was a Colorado law or something.

why do you check mirrors in shoulders when there's no lane to the left of you?
@jewelbass29143 жыл бұрын
there could be pedestrians
@grahamsmith62103 жыл бұрын
@@jewelbass2914 wouldn't you see them just by looking at the crosswalk?
@jewelbass29143 жыл бұрын
@@grahamsmith6210 most of the time, yes you would- however, there will be some times where pedestrians will not abide by their laws and will try to rush around your car and if you don't catch them in your peripheral vision before you start moving there's a chance of hitting them. It doesn't happen often, but it has happened before. Just think of it more as an extra precaution, as you can't always expect that others will follow the laws of the road. There also have been a few instances of people going down the wrong side of the road, so it'll help to also make sure there's not an idiot over on that side or someone getting impatient and trying to go around you and make a turn from the lane to your left (which as stupid as it sounds, I've actually seen happen before). I'm not gonna say I shoulder check everytime myself, but a little glance at your side mirror is always a good idea. I hope that this made some since to you, I'm not the best at explaining things. 👍

Sorry for the late response. We check it just to make sure so no pedestrian, bicyclist's, skateboarder or even a electronic scooter has come into the area of the blind spot. Happens in Brooklyn or even in the city all the time. Better to be safe the sorry guys

Always stay in furthest right lane after a turn. If you're going to make a left turn after the turn, then stay in the left lane or move over into the left lane.
