sulfuric acid is used, looks like he used drain cleaner with sulfuric acid. lead batteries contain this mixed with water.

I tried ad per this vedio but not good quality flux. For you have to use sulfuric acid. Uhave to tske care while making flux. This acide is very hazardus. Make this in open space where high air flow. It gives high smoke so keep away from you till lid material gets fully melted. Always wear had glows while working. Then you get good result.
