My granny came from Floyd county KY to live with us in Texas for a few yrs. She taught me gardening, cooking, how to sew, iron and do laundry by the time I was 11. This is one of the dishes I grew up on, minus all the sugar. A pan of cast iron cornbread and fresh green onions from the garden and I was all set. It might be simple, but good food doesn't have to be complicated and when she was raising 9 kids it wasn't. Just good and filling.

Oh my mom grew up eating this. I love it she taught me how to make it. Her mom taught her. We put celery and onions in ours. Southern MO is where she grew up, no sugar in theirs. Michigan is where I grew up, no sugar in mine.

We always made this during canning season back on the 1960's here in Upper Michigan but we cook the macaroni right in the tomatoes. We also didn't use sugar but added a whole stick of butter and lots of salt and pepper. Looks good

I also made a lot's for my daughter's when they was young , i always made a huge huge batch of this for lunch for my girls and their friends and today its her making it and I still make it today.....😊 simple dish always delicious ! 😊 time travel dish!!!!!!!❤

My family made this alot especially when I was I child. Mom used shell macaroni while grandma used elbow! They both used home canned tomatoes bacon and onions!! I don't cook the macaroni separately I add them uncooked to the tomatoes! They absorb more flavor!! I add a little ketchup instead of sugar!! Love it with hot sauce and grated cheese!!

I am from Indiana and we never put sugar in it. Simply macaroni or pasta, canned diced tomatoes, butter, salt and pepper. This must have been a Depression recipe. I still make it with Rotini.
