I've been. making this for 20 years and you DO NOT need to heat it (saving dishwashing). Just mix the ingredients together in the final container and shake and leave for a few mins and you're done. Plus that ratio 1:1 is VERY strong for most people, and they will feel a stinging on the skin. Better to start with 2-parts water to 1-part Magnesium Chloride Flakes, then adjust as necessary.

Can we add any other ingredient to make it less tingling and more moisturising?

This is just magnesium chloride solution, you can make it by mixing dissolved epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) and dissolved calcium chloride. Add a little of whichever you have more of to the one you have less of until you stop seeing a precipitate form. If you are familiar with chemistry, use stoichiometry and look up the solubility product of calcium sulfate dihydrate for a less contaminated product. Pour the mixture through a coffee filter to remove the white solid calcium sulfate (which can be heated later to make plaster). The clear solution that filters through is magnesium chloride, or "magnesium oil." Ice melt/road salt is typically calcium chloride, but check the label (and the MSDS to be sure) to make sure it is pure calcium chloride.

Thanks, I had bought some homemade from a lady locally and thought it seemed rather watery for an 'oil', now I understand while it seems like water. I put it in a spray bottle like yours and added a drop of lavender oil to make it a pleasant reason to put it on frequently. I didn't care for the feeling on it on my hands or legs since it made them feel sticky and oily. Now, I spray it on my upper/inner thighs and stomach before bed and when I am getting dressed. The lavender makes it smell nice and I remember to use it more.

You're welcome! This method doesn't work with magnesium powder. It works better with flakes. You can get them from Amazon and a little bag will last awhile. The only two kinds of magnesium powder I know of are epsom salts and magnesium powder you mix into drinks (like the Natural Calm brand). Epsom salts are great for baths and foot soaks.

Did search a bit more, and 5 sprays give approximately 100 mg, which basically means we need about 30 sprays to get 600 mg. People with serious diseases should get closer to 3000 mg though at first, which means best is probably to take both - skin and through digestive system. I wonder, if we could drink diluted magnesium oil. I know it says on the package just for external use.
