As a kid I used to use baking soda on my teeth. I now use it for laundry bc i discovered how much better and safer and doesn’t transfer color so u can mix lights with darks. It cleans and deodorizes clothes so well. Thats why they use it in fridges , litter boxes and rugs. It’s in all different types of cleaning products but they want you to spend hundreds of dollars on added bad chemicals and fragrances. So I wanted to remind myself how well it worked for toothpaste. I will go back to doing this and see how my teeth respond. I will just use the baking soda with coconut oil bc bad tastes doesn’t bother me. Thing is I use salt water rinses for sore throats and even bad breath. It’s amazing how immediately it works for throat pain and breath. It’s like nature provides all the necessities and we think everything has to be synthesized and made in a lab. Most of time basic body care is found in nature without much manipulation

You can use salt. Purpose of Baking soda/salt is to act like sand paper. While brushing its tiny particals polishes your teeth and clean them. Branded tooth pastes have bone powder and baking soda. Desi laal Dant-manjan had coal powder.

If you Google a list called the "Abrasive Index of Common Toothpastes" you can see how most toothpastes rank in abrasiveness. Just plain baking soda is given the ranking of a 7, and falls into the category of 0-70 (low abrasive). Most common toothpastes are in the range of 49-165, with anything above 150 falling into the category of "highly abrasive". So personally, I'm not worried about the abrasiveness. Others have used stevia instead of xylitol.

I used Clove ethereal oil instead of the Peppermint (the oil has antibacterial properties, and can also be used to treat infections), Stevia from my own garden (I dried and then pulverized it), and I warmed up the Coconut oil in order to mix everything smoothly (the Baking Soda did not dissolve, which is a desirable outcome).

Thank you, Ashley. I lean towards the idea of transferring the toothpaste from the container to the brush on a tongue depressor (narrow, wood ones are available a zillion for a dollar at... dollar stores (if made in China, however, I wouldn't use those- China has poor quality requirements and inspections)). When we brush our teeth, whatever 'germs' that are in our mouth are transferred to the toothbrush. If the 'germy' toothbrush is put into the paste, germs are transferred to all the paste that's in the container. Germs, like all life, love to multiply. I suggest scooping the toothpaste with an UN-USED end of a tongue depressor. This will prevent organisms being transferred to the container (other than the organisms that are on the tongue blade. And, there are sterilized tongue blades available (each in their own sterile paper sleeve) for people who are sufferers of obsessive-compulsive disorder). On the subject of tooth care, I recommend cracking out a NEW toothbrush more often than once every 5 years. The human mouth is 'home' to more organisms than we can shake a toothbrush at, and every time the brush goes into our mouth, organisms attach to the brush. I was a foster parent to 5 children at a time. Each child had their own toothbrush (of course) AND their own tube of toothpaste). Also, the cup at the bathroom sink was a dispenser of pop-up paper cups. They each had their own wash cloth and towel (color coded). Sturdy hooks were screwed across a length of 1 x 4 wood. The wood 'plank' was affixed to the bathroom wall. This 'towel rack' can be decorated, the children's names can be placed over the hooks, etc. The children were rarely ill. Using the above methods is, especially, important for people who are at high risk of contracting contagious diseases- people who have traveled around the sun more than 65 times, people with less than superb health, people experiencing certain health conditions or injuries, people who have particular medications/substances going into their bodies, people who work around ill people, people who work with young children.... Some may think this advice is a bit extreme. But, having been a Registered Nurse for over 35 years, working in hospitals, clinics and 'urgent care' facilities for many of those years, I've seen a lot of illness... and much of it could have been prevented by actions of the sick/injured person and the people in contact with them. The best thing we can do? Be as healthy as we can- this, largely, determines who contracts the contagious disease and who doesn't. Thanks. Karen at the Health Nut Club

The fluoride in conventional toothpaste is not enough to kill a person. It is important to be in toothpaste and in our water to reduce sensitivity on exposed root surfaces and cause remineralization of teeth. Of course if we consume grams on fluoride it will kill us like everything else in excess. Moderation is key and doing your research before making claims is key for all of us to become better and healthier. Here are some scientific article proving the benefits of fluoride. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4733546/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4851520/ ilikemyteeth.org/fluoridation/effects-of-fluoride/

You are contaminating the product if you are dipping your used toothbrush into mixture. Another suggestion would be to put it in a zip lock bag & cut a small opening to squeeze it out, or a pastry tube dispenser.

Just a fun tip if you crush a strawberry and mix it with 1 tbls baking soda you have a supper whiting tooth cleaner but don't use it more than 2x a week because it will damage your gums. But it works better than commercial whiteners for all kinds of stains from wine to coffee and tea.

***** Never put your toothbrush into your mixture. GERMS BACTERIA and all its cousins will come to visit you. Use a popsicle stick or something you can either throw out or dedicate by clean/disinfect each time and ensure it is completely DRY and sterile before putting back into your container. You cannot see the YUK growing so you will not feel the effects till too late. You may stay safe for a while but it only takes once to get infected by some type of staff! Nice recipe just apply some safety nets whenever using non preserved homemade products. Keep GREEN!! :-)

Great recipe, I've been using the same type for a while now. Only thing I would question is the alcohol-free peppermint extract...of all the ones I've seen they all use glycerine (which you don't want on your teeth as it will not allow re-mineralization of the teeth) I realize it is a small amount of the extract but still just wondering if yours contains it or not? Too much talking! If you want to talk, at least work on your product while doing so. You come to a stand-still to talk or explain something. While I do appreciate your knowledge on making toothpaste, i cannot subscribe and listen to another video that should be a 2 minute tutorial instead of 7 minutes. Sorry.
@AshleysConsciousLife
@AshleysConsciousLife 6 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to listen to 7 minutes of talking, open the description box and read the recipe, simple enough. Some people like to listen to the description of ingredients and why they were chosen, if you don't want to hear it don't watch it.

For my mint toothpaste I use dryed crushed all natural mint leaves that I get from My back yard and no My family does not use harsh weed killers so anything I get from my yard or property has not been sprayed with any pest killers or weed killers. Plus my mom is hooked on making all natural things and I'm the family apothicary. None of my family members have seen the doctor besides our yearly check-ups for 10 years and I plan to keep it that way.

I'm also might add peppermint essential oil/ dash of myrrh and rosemary c02 essential oil which will help with taste, gingivitis and help keep the toothpaste from going bad.

If you want to naturally lighten your hair just squeeze a little or a lot depends on your taste, organic lemon juice on your hair and sit outside in the sun for 30 minutes or longer if it's not too hot and you can tolerate it. Can't get any more natural than that.

Baking Soda acts as an abrasive in the toothpaste. However not all toothpastes use baking soda. Some toothpaste brands use silica, which is another name for crushed glass.

Hello, I have tried this recipe,actually I've mixed 4 tbsp baking soda,3 tbsp coconut oil and I've added a tbsp of iodized salt. I can't get the mixture to a paste form. Its not too liquid but its definitely not solid..I've tried bunch of time with different measurements,I've excluded the salt and still no success. The thing is that the other day when I was showing this to my family, I've made a really solid paste. I mean the mixture as all was really almost like a regular toothpaste. And 2 days after,I cant get the same thing. I honestly dont know where I went wrong :D
