How to Make Massage Candles | Bramble Berry

Massage candles are a wonderfully luxurious treat to make for yourself or that special someone. A massage candle is a blend of skin safe waxes, oils and essential oils that melt at a low temperature, perfect for a warm and soothing massage. Makes a great Valentine's gift!
Recipe:
4 oz Container Soy Wax (Nature Wax C-3)
1 oz Deodorized Cocoa Butter
4 oz Avocado oil
5 oz Shea butter
.5 oz Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
.5 oz Patchouli Essential Oil
4 - 6 oz candle tins with lids
4 wu 250 wicks
**Please note: there's a typo on the ingredient list - it should read 1 ounce of Cocoa Butter. If you use 4 ounces, your massage candle will be a little softer, but will still work wonderfully.**

hi soap queen. i made some relaxing lavender Vanilla lotion bars yesterday and they turned out perfect. just made some almond biscotti lotion bars just now n the smell and feel amazing.. using CB-135 Soy Wax is awesome and happy i switched from Pillar blend. i can do so much and im paying $37.70 for 6kg with postage $15.40 & takes up to 4 days to arrive.. iv made Massage Melts, Massage Candles, Soy Melts, Scented Candles & Lip Balms, also has a amazing scent throw... im in love with CB-135 Soy Wax

Hi there! Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, meaning it will make the recipe a bit more firm. I would recommend making a small test batch to see if you like the way it feels on your skin. =)

Hello! I didn't take the temperature, but that mixture was probably around 160-190F. Waxes and cocoa butter have a higher melt point, so it takes a little time for them to liquefy. =) Also, essential oils can be tricky in candles. Some, like Peppermint Essential Oil, can irritate the mucous membranes in your nose. This mean it can cause irritation if it's heated up in a candle! I would recommend reading the description of each essential oil on brambleberry.com and making test batches to see how they smell in candles. =) Essential oils: www.brambleberry.com/Original-C23.aspx

Hi Evie! Adding more deodorized cocoa butter to this recipe will add some firmness. Also, you can definitely substitute jojoba oil. Although the oils are similar, the texture will be slightly different. +luznegra The ingredients in this recipe will melt when they come in contact with your skin! If you like, you can use this as a balm instead of a candle. To do that, just pour the melted mixture into the tins, let it cool and apply to skin. If you find the balm is a bit too firm, you can reduce the amount of wax by an ounce or so. =)

To resize recipes, it helps to find out the percentage of each ingredient! To find out the percentages, add up the total weight of the recipe. In this case, that's 15 ounces. Then, divide each ingredient by 15 to get the percentage. So, 4 ounces divided by 15 ounces is 26.6%. Hi there! We have other waxes, but they have a higher melting point than soy wax. That means by the time they're melted, they may burn the skin. We definitely don't recommend using those waxes! I made a batch yesterday, this time I only used 1 oz of Cocoa Butter, but they're actually softer than when I messed up and used too much Cocoa Butter. :( They are so soft that when I tip the tins the content runs. Hi Raven! You're welcome! EcoSoya Pillar Blend Wax would work well in this recipe! It is a softer wax with a lower melting point, making it perfect for massage candles. =) EcoSoya Pillar Blend Wax: www.brambleberry.com/EcoSoya-Pillar-Blend-Wax-P4700.aspx As for the cocoa butter, you can substitute that will shea or mango butter. Keep in mind cocoa butter is a little more firm than those butters, so it will change the texture slightly.
